5 Minute Freewrite Tuesday Prompt : jam tomorrow
Into the battle hall, we all gathered and obediently we sat in our identified seats. Some seats were empty but we knew it was because those seats were once residents of the spaceships. Residents who had gone into battle and were defeated. The system had intentionally left these seats vacant; a memory or reminder to all of us that this would be of our outcome if we did not succeed in the battle field.
No one ever knew who or what the system was. We never saw any of them or know who are they. They could possibly be one of the residents for all we knew. No one dared to talk against the system but we all hope that someone, someday will rise up and defeat the system and save humankind. This life, this battle isn't right. Humanity does not begin by killing one another. This action is the end of all humanity!
The sight of the breakfast table never felt so empty. Being children we were always looking forward to what was layed on the table by our parents. We knew that today was supposed to be special but somehow it no longer is.

Those were the words from mom. Unfortunately, the next day we were all shipped off to the space ship. There wasn't even time for breakfast. The warnings came unexpectedly and we all had to leave our home, our world and everything that we ever knew off.
Sitting inside the battle hall, I missed my parents whom had died in the battle field. Died protecting us.
Life just isn't the same anymore. I will survive. I will ensure that their sacrifice is worth it all. Soon.. Very soon.. I will defeat the system and free us all.

I like the way you use something so normal, like 'jam' for breakfast, as a counterpoint to the dystopian future that you've painted in the short story.

Thank you for your kind words. I prefer to keep things simple and not to overthink it. Simple words can be incorporated in any of our stories.. we just need to allow the words to flow out
