Hot flames chased Duncan from Kesha's mansion. As he tumbled out into the street, the flames danced from her rooftop to the neighbors. He was alive and coughing.
He stumbled down the hill, eyes watering. He looked for and found a patch of grass. The grass was dry and dead from the drought, but good enough to wipe the soot from his hands and eyes. The city was on fire.
The city wasn't on fire. When he looked south, there was a quiet, unconcerned bustling metropolis. Cars drove on streets at a leisurely pace. Dogs somewhere peed on bushes, and bedtime stories were read. Helicopters shone lights on running suspects,
