After midnight after midnight snacks after midnight going to the bathroom and after midnight getting snuggly in warm blankets, there comes a moment that might last hours or might last seconds when his mind races over all the woulda coulda shouldas. He wants to learn from his mistakes, but there's nothing to learn. He learns that going back in time would be nice, but not that there's anything he can do about going forward in time. He wishes his witches were real and could push him into new territory. He wishes his wishes could change the world, but they can't, you know? They don't have anything to do with- there's nothing he can change. He's got to just keep on keeping on, you know? Or is that so? Sometimes we fall forward. That's it. Fall forward. There's a series of books called the Xanth novels, and in one of them, our hero must pass 3 tests. One test is facing a gorgon (not a corgan, like billy, nor a corgi...) and he simply shuts his eyes and falls forward. That always seemed astute to me. He didn't retreat. There was a problem he couldn't solve, but he fell forward instead of backwards. that might not be best, really, who knows, but it's how I feel about my life. I don't have the time-
