The Butterfly Family (freewrite: Prompt - delicate)

in #freewrite6 years ago

Married for 2 years, they had always been hoping for a child. Still patiently waiting while trusting God, they remained the loveliest couple in town.

Everyone knew their faith in God because they lived their life consistently showing it. They were like a walking springboard of faith and hope. No one whom had conversed with them would be left hopeless.

Cindy was born with a genetic illness which caused her without or around few percent of immune system. Hence, she had delicate health, extremely vulnerable to infection. John, a faithful man, had vowed to take care of her through thick and thin, even designed a room for her which was impenetrable by dirty air. Cindy had done so much for him, from bumping into him at the street severely overdosed with drugs to bringing him out of the dark alley to the clean state. He was a living testimony of butterfly metamorphosis, now, a man with tender, loving, delicate heart.

Despite the fact that Cindy was not supposed to be out most of the time, one could see her at her frontyard garden, watering her flowers and plants, while talking and greeting the neighbours. Some called her butterfly lady as she was just as graceful and delicate as a butterfly. Some addressed her as Mask Woman as she often wore a face mask to protect her from infection.

Good news came at a time least expected. She conceived. They thank God every single day, with heart leaping with joy as they counted the days, eagerly anticipating her arrival.

Baby Susie was so beautiful. Not only she was perfect and healthy, her skin was snowy. Snow White baby.

However it did not take them long to find out something was not so right. She easily got herself hurt, particularly on her snowy skin. A little scratch by her own flimsy soft fingers would land her in a serious skin wound.

Later on, doctors found out baby Susie had a genetic skin disease, epidermolysis bullosa, which caused her to have an extremely delicate skin. Any little scratch or stimulus on the surface of her snowy skin might ended up tearing her skin.

They called her the butterfly baby.

"Why bad things happen on good people?" Cindy and John could hear those whispers in the neighbourhood.

"Well, we have no idea on that. Never though of it. We give thanks for our life daily. That we are alive till this day. We can breathe and walk and eat. But we do have one question. Why do good things happen to bad people? Oh.. I had no answers on that for years too. I came to a conclusion - God is good all the time," Cindy replied one of her neighbours on one fine day, with her gentle smiling eyes. Her face mask was on, and she was cuddling her baby who was wrapped in gauzes stained with taint of blood here and there.

P/S: Opsie daisies, I took more than 5 minutes to finish off the story. Could not afford to leave it hanging.

This sure did pull some heart strings. But the way they answer people when asked, that's beautiful. Never losing faith even when it could have been the "easier" thing to do.
Beautiful story friend.

Beautiful story of the butterfly family undergoing their own metamorphosis. When everyone asks about why bad things happen to good people, Daniel asked me the most thought provoking question ever: What about when good things happen to good people? Looks like we only ask that when bad things happen but overlooking all the good.

Awesome write from you, always love reading your stories which touches the soul!

This was sad. Seems most of today's freewrites are kinda sad, never would've thought 'delicate' to bring all that on...ALthough this sure was a sweet, interesting story :)

I sure hope you don't quit your freewriting journey just now, so I brought along this newest prompt.
