Malady (freewrite)

in #freewrite6 years ago

He felt the tip of the needle enter the small of his back, but it was as if...as if he didn't. Like he was somewhere else, observing what was going on with him, with his body.
Truth was he didn't want to be there, because he felt so much pain, and it was becoming unbearable. He'd close his eyes and he'd try to think of Laura and the days before, but that didn't help none. And most of all, he realized he felt scared, because this sure as hell weren't living. He existed day in and day out, waiting.

For the day he wouldn't.
And he tried to hold it in and to fight it and to be strong. The only thing he wanted now was a little bit of strength, a shred of dignity that was absent from his veins. He saw it in the eyes of the people he passed on the street. They looked at him with pity. With disgust. And boy, did he hate it. He wouldn't admit it, not even to himself, but they made him feel like a lesser man.
And it ain't like something you pick, is it? You don't choose your health, you can't choose the diseases that plague you. So, how was he to blame. The warmth coarsed through his veins like nothing before.
He'd been adamant to getting the needle in the back, because it sounded so strange, so unlike anything he'd ever heard before.
But the man with the needle told him that it would be stronger that way and that he should really consider it.
Which he did, and soon enough, he forgot about all the people that looked down on him.
And of Laura, who'd left at the beginning of his malady.

The needle is something else i guess. How would he forget those people and laura

I suppose he chose to forget. :)

Addiction is a terrible disease, a disease like any other, although society at large seems unable to accept it. Making the results that much more tragic.

I know people who have gone that way, and you've truly captured a sense of the hopelessness with this piece. Thank you for sharing it - looking forward to your next freewrite.

Thank you :)
Indeed, it's a horrible thing and largely ignored.

This is a very intense piece. You have a very engaging writing style!

Thank you! :)

Welcome, dear.

Sir @honeydue thank you so much for sharing this kind of interesting story

Do take the time to at least check the gender of the poster....You're not gonna get far with this kind of comment.
