5-minute Freewrite Prompt: Wire
Todd got into the lift just under the wire. He was the last person to get in.
"Now what should I do? What can I do?" He could hear his own thoughts or maybe that was his heartbeat racing.
There was a gunshot going on in the school. He could still hear the screams of terror and the shots firing up.
"Should I hide or should I try to get out of the school?" Todd was really trying to think.
He could not believe his eyes once he got out of the lift. Everyone else who were with him gasped but could not say a word. Everything was in chaos. There were dead bodies and the scene was just horrible with blood everywhere.
Just then, he could hear the gunfire sound getting nearer. He saw a little girl standing at the doorway, stunned and not knowing what she could do too. Todd knew he had to do something, if not she would become the next victim. He asked her to lie under his body and he smeared the blood of a dead all over himself. He told her to be quiet and they had to play dead. That was done just under the wire.
Just then, they heard footsteps and conversations. They tried to hold their breath, finger crossing that this needed to work.

I got saved by the bell again! Do you wonder what happened to Todd and the little girl? Well, I too. Under the wire is an expression saying something is done in the last possible minute. I was so happened learning this in my class today so, this is it for the freewrite today!
Open gunfire in schools have been on the rise and it is something that truly wrecked my heart. I can never imagine myself being in that situation as well as what crosses the minds of the victims. Sometimes, it can be a mismanagement of emotions that led to this decision, sometimes it can be a buried heart issue that causes the action. Too many innocent lives have lost. As much as I am truly saddened by it, I have no solution to it.
Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by @mariannewest and @improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. Basically, there is no right or wrong, just let the mind and fingers do their work, to find our creative self and let it come out of us.

I have an experience of exchange of gunfire, cannon fire and etc, but if I experienced that at school, I'd probably be in a panic state for a few minutes.
Anyway, I love your 5-min freewrite. It's very intriguing even if it's just short.
Great piece, I could only imagine the horror in such a bloody situation. I wonder what goes through the minds of the ones firing away, and the terrorising feeling of the victims knowing they might not anymore see the light of day.
Such a great write up using the expression under the wire. Well we do hope something can be done to eliminate gun fire.
Great piece!
This is truly a sad state of events that these things are becoming more and more commonplace.
There are many factors here that contribute, but rather than opening a can of worms, so to speak, Ill just say, great freewrite. ♥
