"California" - 5-Minute Freewrite 3/25/18

California... what can I say? I lived there for many years... between the ages of about 7 to around 13 or so. So like 2nd through 8th grade.
Those were good times.
California is an amazing place... The sun just beams through crystal blue skies, the clouds so fluffy and white--the low, rolling, golden hills... I used to think they looked like piles of sleeping golden retrievers.
We would climb up on those hills on the 4th of July to watch fireworks. My dad still visits that same park to play bocce ball. At least, he did a few years back.
I returned to California for a year after having "lived in the South" for some time. My old neighborhood, which was brand new when we moved there, had overgrown with weeds; its sidewalks now cracked.
I hooked up with a few old friends; and, let's just say, "the rest is history."
San Francisco wasn't any place for a kid my age.
Anyway.

What an amazing place.

Your memory of the clouds and the rolling hills make California is lovely! It must have been a letdown to see your old neighborhood looking overgrown and untended to.
