5 Minute Freewrite: Freedom

in #freewrite6 years ago

Natalie sat at her desk with her pencil dangling between her fingers.

She stared out her bedroom window as the clouds rolled into view. The splatter of the first raindrops slithered down the glass like little worms.

A sarcastic chuckle crept up her throat.

"Freedom..." she whispered.

What price had been paid for this? She was alone, utterly and hopelessly.

Her school books sat neat in a row on her desk, next to her unfinished essay on World War II. Her favorite mug, still untouched, held ice cold coffee from this morning.

She sighed. Everything had seemed so important two days ago.

Hey guys! Thanks for reading! This freewrite seems to be coming out a little cryptic, but sometimes that happens! Thanks again!

Very well written! ♥

Thank you!

You piqued my curiosity. What did she give up to have this newfound freedom that leaves her lonely on a rainy day? Great imagery. Cold coffee, too, a symbol of dreams gone cold, and of lost camaraderie.

I added symbolism without even knowing it! Haha I'm glad it raised your curiosity 😀 And thank you!
