Day 601: 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: tax
African leaders love tax more than anyone else in the world. t you don't know what they do with it. A lot of people and organisations in Ghana don't pay taxes and instead of making them pay, they increase the taxes of those already paying to make life even harder for them. How is that fair?
Come to Ghana where foreigners are allowed some years to work without paying taxes so as to increase foreign investments and the local Ghanaian can't start a business. Why? Because the business is made to pay lots of money as taxes even though it's just a startup. Just registering your business alone is enough to cripple your business.
The system is such a way that, a lot of start-ups have decided not to register or pay taxes until they are well into the market and are making some money. Is that the best? No! I met a couple of guys who had started a business but couldn't register because the money being demanded was huge. They decided to meet some investors to negotiate and before they new it, their idea was being implemented by the investors.
You can't take them to court as you've not really registered your company. After all the taxes, still development doesn't go on in most African countries. Nothing changes in Ghana when new tax rules or laws are made, but the politicians always say the changes are supposed to bring in more taxes and as such, more development. It's a pity.

Very interesting! Small businesses have difficulties in the US also paying all the taxes, but most of them are payroll taxes. Please check your link on the contest post - I don't think it is there.
Thanks for alerting me. Didn’t realize.
I think the situation in the US is a bit better than here in Ghana

This is so sadden.
How could they be collecting taxe without using it for the betterment of their nation? How could they hiking price of taxes when others dont pay at all?
African leaders need to go back to the drawing board, restrategize and come up with a better solution to our problems.
We no longer need to elect selfish and greedy leaders. We to choose people who have the people at the mind and are willing to sacrifice for the country.
Thank you.

It is not at all Fair on the part oF the government to hike the taxes. Instead oF creating encouraging environment For the Foreign investors, they are in Fact destroying the country's economy indirectly. Very unFortunate indeed.
Very unfortunate and seems there's nothing we can do

just out of curiosity, do your governments have publicly available budgets/treasuries? Like can you see how much actually came in, where it goes, and is the information reliable?
There is some information, but it's not detailed. For budget, they always spend more than budgeted for.
