5 Min Writing Prompt "Turbine" #freewrite serial Chapter Two

in #freewrite7 years ago (edited)

It is in the forest glade that he discovers the jet turbine, fallen to earth and half buried within the loamy soil. He'd been walking for hours, first through the cornfield away from the farmhouse and his pursuers, then across railroad tracks and into a valley of rocks and scrub grass. After a while he'd entered a forest, shielding him from the rays of the morning sun. And now he is here.

The turbine is immense - he has no idea how large the plane must have been. He doesn't know planes very well. An oak tree is growing next to it, old and gnarled and twisting over the turbines carapace. Off to the right there is a stream that meanders gently through the glade and back into the forest.

He kneels down at the bank of the stream, cupping his hands to drink. The water is the sweetest that he has ever tasted. After drinking some more, he then turns his direction back to the turbine.

A bed of moss and wildflowers covers the interior of the engine space. He decides that he can sleep there. And deep within the recesses of his mind, another decision has already been made.

This is his new home.

This is the second of an ongoing serial based on the 5 min freewrite challenge. Read Chapter One here.

Thanks very much.

Great story! Now I'm going to have to go back and read chapter one! :-)

he water is the sweetest that he has ever tasted.

Is there lead in that water?
Are we witnessing lead poisoning? :P

Lead makes the water taste sweet.

No, but with a jet turbine nearby I could see the possibility:) This chapter is loosely based on me trying to find my way home through the woods while hungover and dehydrated. When I drank from a stream it was heaven.
