5 min Writing Prompt "Players" #freewrite Serial Story ACT THREE Chapter One
The first of the five rivers is the Grand, followed by the Nith, the Eramosa, the Conestogo and the Speed River. Even though each river follows the other, by the time they reach the Sky Mountain, all five converge again, with the first river - the Grand - acting as the centralizing force.
It hasn't always been this way. It was one of the changes he wrought upon this region as it's King. And it was the escape route he took when he fled from the uprising.
Standing at the bow of his vessel, gazing out at the slowly passing trees, Simon realizes that the reason he found his Kingdom abandoned is that his Usurpers had taken up pursuit against him. And now he has returned to pursue them by the very same path. They have become players on a continuously turning wheel.
Simon laughs to himself ruefully. Well, at least he knows the direction well enough. He reaches down for a bite of the meal offered him at the dock, and ponders the nature of the people he seeks, both oppressor and oppressed alike...
