5 Minute Freewrite Day 496: Grass

They were in the middle of the biggest open space she has seen since the ocean. This place some would call a sea of some kind, but not of wet blue, but rather, a vibrant green. Caelynn saw grass of almost emerald color up until the horizon, and she guessed that it kept going, it was beautiful, but it was all there was. Boddynock had said that they were going to make some business, but she doubted the herbs would offer any good deal.

A couple of hours later, it was time for the mid-afternoon snack, and no one else appeared. Just as her friend was pulling out far more cookies and sweet buns than the two of them could eat, a small tremor disturbed the quietness of the grass, and the young elf felt as if hundredths of small feet were marching towards them.

When the sounds were at just 5ft from them, they stopped for a second, before something burst out from the ground in various points around the two merchants. Now, they were surrounded by dozens of creatures of small size, a mix of prairie dog and humanoid, all of them sniffing the air. “A little late Hugo, many roots in the way?” asked her gnome friend, and in a high pitched voice, a half-bald creature answered: “Something worse… we may have a problem with your truffle order and some hungry ogres”.
