5 Minute Freewrite Day 490: Cabbage Borscht

Another region to work on, but Fabricia was glad that this time it wasn’t killing people only because they rebelled against some politician. No, this time the Raging Drakes and her were far northeast, and when before the angry sun punished them with their rays as they killed humans, now the uncaring but also merciless snow warned them to not get too brave when dealing with a certain beast than threatened the kingdom.

This was certainly the farthest in any direction that she had traveled in her short life, and the land seemed immense from the top of the tower she was in, waiting for the next day, when their expedition would go out. She squeezed the fur of her coat, both because of the cold wind, and wondering what kind of monster required an entire battalion of famous mercenaries to take out. They were just told “it’s big, and it has killed many of our own, no one has seen it clearly and returned alive”, but at least the gold would feel less dirty this time.

“Dinner time!”, came as a soft scream from below her, and just a second later, her stomach grumbled. Since cold made her hungrier, her sightseeing was cut short. Once in the food hall, she sat in the nearest empty chair, and stared at the bright red soup in front of her, inside which she could see some shredded cabbage. It was called “borscht”, and it looked spicy, and pairing that with its shade made her think that it was the perfect dish for the Raging Drakes. But the world always keeps some surprises: it was sweet, and that brought a smile to her face.
