Day 588: 5 Minute Freewrite: Friday - Prompt: rodeo

As he walked up to the looming skyscraper, Brian Ghent mused to himself that working as a forensic accountant was a little like riding in the rodeo.

The bull, furious and caged, was a fallen company, none-too-happy to be in bankruptcy and desperately trying to find a way out, but with no way out without accounting for how it collapsed. Enter the forensic accountant, at a moment when there was no choice but for his services. However, the moment would come when the bull was unleashed to ride, and the rodeo was on...

The neck-snapping violence of the shocks of just how creative, crooked, and simply inane company movers, shakers, and leaders could be in messing over the books and finances...

The bruises and bumps of dealing with shattered people, some of whom were terrified of what you might find, some of whom couldn't want to tell you all the things they felt should have been heard long before, some of whom just needed someone new to take their frustrations out on.

And of course, occasionally getting thrown down by the bull and trampled or thrown -- the company occasionally didn't like the findings and began lawsuits and nasty press stuff in an attempt to destroy its former accountants. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it worked like mutually assured destruction.

Oh well. Mr. Ghent straightened his tie a little and walked into the looming skyscraper. Just another day at the rodeo of capitalism.
