Day 74- Five Minutes Free-write. Prompt: Callous. Title: unbeknownst

The little girl sat oblivious to the world around her. Staring as though she had a conversation going on in her head; her head slightly tilted to the left, making faces, as though in an argument within herself.

If passersby found it odd seeing a little girl on a park’s bench making scrunched-up faces into thin air, they never said anything...didn't even spare a second glance at her.

No one ever spoke a word to her.

She had become a regular sight, so much so that no one paid her any attention. She was the daughter of the village's mason, a callous and unrepentant fellow as they had never seen.

Unwittingly and unknowingly, some of the grievances of the father's sins, were passed on to the little girl. The little mum girl, who hadn't uttered a word since she was born.

She sat there every single day. Her father, if he really even was, didn't give two pence about her.

She was a strange being, people concluded.

How right they were.

She pulled out of the wooden seat and began to hum, a hum that everyone who heard, heard as a wail from the mouth of a broken child. But her lips never even moved.

And then she smiled.

The clouds began to darken, and her smile grew broader.

It was time.
