That is a sad story and I have seen a few who have lived it, at least to some extent. It is not pretty to get older and towards the end of life having no one, not even memories of a previous life with someone. 🙁
I think I lived some extent of it, though I am in 30s not that old. I have seen some people going to 60s with this then joining religion, cult, conspiracy theory groups to deal with that emptiness. So I just observed those people and wrote about them in the story. I wanted to include this in my short stories list but considering it's sad I thought I dont' want my book published with sad stories. I prefer horror over sad :D
