Day 197: 5 Minute Freewrite: Friday - Prompt: flea

F.L.E.A.S.

When Kevin was selected to be part of a new U.S. Army Special Forces program he could not understand why, sure he had an aggressive nature, but he had finished in the middle of the pack during the Basic Training final Physical Training Test. During the pugil stick fights, he had held his own and the instructors liked his technique and initiative, but he lost most of those fights to larger or stronger soldiers. He knew that he was gifted when it came to hand/eye coordination and he excelled at video games, in fact, he was somewhat of a computer nerd and was never very athletic or good at sports. So why would they have chosen him?

His orders were to fly into Salt Lake City on a commercial airline, a bus would be waiting to take him and the other selectee's to an isolated training facility. He had been told to tell his family that he would be out of contact for about fifteen weeks and he had been given a contact number to reach him in the event of an extreme family emergency. What he didn't know was that the number, if used, would never actually reach him but would be forwarded as a message for informational purposes only.

The bus had crossed the Idaho State line and passed through Pocatello, after that there were no solid landmarks, signs or even communities that would give him any idea where he was headed. It seemed like the bus had been traveling forever, but it had probably only been four hours or so from the time that they had left the Salt Lake airfield. The bus was in a very remote location and they had passed through sections that looked like old lava flows during the trip. There was a large gate with security guards but they were waved through. Another ten minutes of driving during which Kevin saw several facilities that were secured with high fences, concertina wire and guarded gates that had been hardened against vehicular attack they finally arrived at their destination. The sign at the gate simply read F.L.E.A.S. training facility.

After settling into the barracks and getting a couple of hours sleep Kevin and his new training class were awaked, taken out for a half hour of PT, given a very nice breakfast and sent for their first class. It was then that Kevin finally found out the truth of why he had been selected, F.L.E.A.S. stood for Fully Linked Encapsulated Augmentation Suit. His class would become a specialized team of soldiers wearing a fully enclosed and armored suit with strength and agility enhancing features. Now, this was something that he could get into, literally, he thought!

**Disclaimer: I often use the freewrite prompt to tell a story instead of doing a pure freewrite, so they sometimes take longer than 5 minutes and usually have some editing. But I try to do my story straight through at one sitting without any unnecessary breaks.
