Day 141: 5 Minute Freewrite: Friday - Prompt: grocery list
The Year 2041
Sarah and Jim road the mag-lift express to the health and science block, from there, they passed through the clear flexi-tunnel on the people mover belt and paid no attention to all of the hover taxis and scoot-cats zipping by above them. They waited with a small crowd for ninety seconds in the bio-seal under ultraviolet and air-cleansing agents. The seal to the plush main lobby finally opened and they were able to then follow the prompts in front of them that displayed their names and marked the path that they needed to take to their appointment.
When the couple arrived hand in hand at the small office, which consisted of nothing more than a room with three chairs, they were instantly greeted by their counselor who had simultaneously entered thru the opposite door. Mr. Dunbar looked over what everyone called the genome grocery list or simply the grocery list because the real name was something like Greater Genome Selection List or GGSL and that just didn't roll off of the tongue well. The list of choices that they had been given was not a complete list, it was just an up to date list of the choices that were currently available for them. They could always wait a few months or a year if they were not satisfied with what was currently available.
The counselor was a kind and sensitive man who carefully went over their choices and what that would mean for their future child and the career paths that the child might expect to be funneled into. He then discussed the risks and things that could go wrong and verified with them that they were properly covered by insurance if something were to happen to the fetus. After the details were completed they used the electronic signatures embedded in their hands to sign the documents releasing the corporation from any liability in the process, this completed the meeting. Now they would just have to wait for the long nine months before they could return for their child. The counselor had expressed over and over that they should make absolutely sure of their choices because if successful, and 99.7% of the results were a success, they would never have another opportunity.
Leaving the facility the couple was very happy with their choices, but they were also a little apprehensive. By law, they could only have one child, so they only had this one chance to get things right. They had chosen a child that would have a 67.38% chance of becoming a Freewriter, in five years of waiting those were the best odds that they had seen. Freewriters were so sought after in the modern world that openings were rare and not guaranteed. The two talked little on their way home, both lost in their own dreams and imaginings. But they each had great hope for the future and the prospects of having their own little Freewriter running around the eco-friendly bio pad that they called home.

**Disclaimer: I often use the freewrite prompt to tell a story instead of doing a pure freewrite, so they sometimes take longer than 5 minutes and usually have some editing. But I try to do my story straight through at one sitting without any unnecessary breaks.

Thank you @mariannewest
Nooooooo, they just have to teach their child to trust in themselves and helps to have wonderful friends that believe in you around them too.
Freewriters are just people that want to be free to be who they are and excepted for what they are.
You can not make someone be something they are not or force them to be anyone but who they are.
Trust that each person will find themselves on their own freewriter journey and some people's journeys might have more twists and turns than others but that in the end, once a freewriter, it's in their blood, and nothing can take that away.....from them........
Love your story!!
Sadly, not everyone is cut out to be a Freewriter, some people just don't like the freedom to write it their way. It is like going to a fast food restaurant and being asked what you want on your sandwich, most people just prefer to say #2 and be done with it rather than having to decide for themselves what to put on it. 😉
Never!!! Quarterpounder with JUST cheese, small fry and LARGE diet coke and maybe an apple pie if I have enough money for one LOLLL 😁
👍
So that's what it's going to be like... Some of the things you described I'ld say maybe, others are quite likely. The future is very clearly presented with this post. Thanks!! :-)
I agree! it is hard to predict the future by just sitting down at your computer and starting to type away lol, I think that I cut one or two of my hasty predictions out before posting as being too over the top. 😮
An we were the pioneers of the freewriters!

Yes! 👍 👏
In my projection of the future, technology dies because it has no power source but that's further ahead than 2041. Great freewrite!
What does it die of, overindulgence? 🤔 😃
Thanks for reading and the continued encouragement! 🙂
It has no power source.
I'm sorry, I was trying to figure out what happened to the power and I mixed the wording up. Did we use it all up or did something else take it away?
Several factors played a part. Fossil fuel runs out. Extreme use by certain nations who put themselves first overload the technologies of the day. Back in the 21st Century, two nations are in conflict and resort to nuclear bombs. Terrible destruction follows but the survivors are adamant that all nuclear use is stopped including energy.
As technology needs power, it develops no more. Earth civilization has to survive on renewable energy and that's quite limited in spite of sun and waves being readily available.
Gotcha 👍
For Civilizations to grow there energy supply must also grow, in fact, the two are directly proportional. If the energy supply is cut off the civilization will also collapse. For years the world mostly used wood for energy and had to expand outward as it grew. But soon they had about reached the limits of outward growth, but then they found vast coal and oil reserves which sustained growth. Now that those sources are somewhat under strain we would need new sources if we are to grow much larger. They have continued using old nuclear technology and never updated to the newer more stable and efficient designs, nor have they solved the problem with the huge amounts of waste. The nuclear industry can not continue like they are currently and thus far there is nothing to replace them. The entire system is a disaster waiting to happen. Without a reliable source of energy, a lot of people will die from lack of resources. If they do not fix the nuclear issue a lot of people are going to die and land will become uninhabitable for a long period of time. So what you are saying is true and if a solution is not agreed upon and work started very soon...😞
Ah well, you and I can see it so, hopefully, people who can start work on a solution will see the problem too. Maybe they are already doing so.
The breed of freewrite they are preparing is a super race, I wonder at the prodgedee. Sometimes is best to spin the wheel!
Yes, I'm for letting God decide! 👍
Thank You!!!
