Prompted the day “Habit” - Make Or Break

Have you heard of the old saying X many days to make a habit X many days to break it? Well according to the research I did on one of my ask me anything posts it’s completely unfounded and improperly researched to create such a hypothesis.

According to what I discovered there is insufficient research in uncontrolled situations to which complications may arise such is life style or even personal desire. Everything from personal characteristics all the way to environmental situations had a great roll on someone’s ability to make or break a habit. Furthermore someone’s mind set relating to their determination can make or break the habit in much reduced time.

Thinking of a good habit to have something that relates to a therapeutic outlet, I can refer to my own. Coming up onto years anniversary sometime in January, my new found passion in photography/video editing/blogging/vlogging. It took me several attempts to put together my very first work but I am proud of everything that I learned just to be able to do such a feat and feel confident I was contributing to something.

Now it’s a habit that should I miss a day I feel compelled to put more time in future posts making that habit a compulsion. I must just remain consistent with other daily habits such as making it to bed early so I may get up with the fiancé. Thus the constant war between my habits remains most likely never to diminish.

I find a habit is formed in a week or two for me in most circumstances. Have a wonderful night.

Same here but many personal factors come into play such as my schedule, I often just don’t have time to be consistent enough to make it a habit.

It’s a real balancing act trying to stop the bad habits taking over the good habits. One of my worst habits is staying up too late which makes sticking to my good habits like getting up early a whole lot more difficult.

When trying to sustain that balancing act having habits that reinforce each other is my best bet. Such as to bed early means getting up early, showering means preparing for the day, coffee means make a lunch, my morning walk is picture or vlogging time, just consistently multitasking but in a sense of pattern context switching 😉.

Some habit are more harder to break than others, it's also depends on the area where the habit is formed.

I find the biggest factor is determination relative to the desire, if trying to make a habit of something you don’t actually want to do its that much more difficult to sustain it.

I find, like you, that there are many circumstances that determine if you can stay with a new habit or not. And it is amazing how fast a habit can be broken.Like exercising all the time - and suddenly, something happens, and boom, it is hard to get back into the routine...

Yea depending on whether it is a good habit or bad will also factor into how easily it will be made or broken your right there. Usually bad habits are the easiest to form and hardest to break where good habits tend to be the opposite as they are also typically more work 😉

Eventually it will come back, the working out routine I mean, our body will have its own longing for exertion it’s just a matter of getting back into the mindset of applying that energy.

you hit the nail on the head :) so much easier to eat chocolate than to climb a mountain. but I actually like to go hiking and such. I just have to allow myself the time to do that instead of looking at all the projects that need to be done :)

Multitasking, the ability to quickly context switch is my key to making use of time thus the necessity of a simple and quick mobile app for my Steemit & DTube activities. After that I tend to forfeit sleep for creation and dog walks 🤣 so I can totally relate.
