Prompt of the day “Jewel Thieves” - Stolen = Worthless 🤦♂️
Why in the world would anyone want to steal jewels? Unless you have an underground buyer and the jewels have not been marked it’s not like you can actually do anything with them.
Essentially even unmarked jewels are deemed worthless no matter the quality when finding their way back into the market.
No track record no value!
If you do happen to gain possession of a stolen marked jewel and have it appraised your not going to get it back. In fact, you will have to deal with an investigation and provide evidence of where you purchased it from. Same with an unmarked jewel the appraisers are legal bonded to upholding quality and source marking confirmations.
I still wonder why jewel thieves are so predominantly depicted in the movies? Do they have the false idea that gems and jewels are not trackable?
Even raw jewels are worthless unless you bring to a refiner that will fake the sourcing marks. Putting their entire business on the line and facing serious charges. Depending on the country serious jail time. Easy enough to compare mineral makeup to verify if the source code matches the record of jewel mineral makeup from source.

I didn't know jewels are tracked and that when they are stolen means no value. I was made to believe in the movies. Lol..
It definitely seems to be something the movies want to push as a narrative for us to believe, precious gems are one of the most tract forms of wealth in the entire world!

A compelling point!
Even paper money is trackable! In "Breaking Bad" (best TV show I ever saw, and most horrible and maddening), the numbers on the currency made the money almost impossible to spend. Funny, with all the technology we have to prevent counterfeiting and the sale of stolen goods, we seem to have as many thieves among us as ever.
