Prompt of the day “Beads” - Original Use Case
When I think of beads the first thing that comes to mind is there decorative function. I highly doubt that the original use case of the bead as we know it today was only of a decorative function. Sure they come in all sorts of fancy designs and colours and shapes but would not the bead truly constitute the first version of the wheel?
Beads have been used for centuries by nearly every single culture around the world. Each place the bead holds its own significance such as for religious prayer or decorations for wedding attire. The one thing that holds true between every single place that the use of beads has extended from, you will find round ones with holes in the middle just like a wheel.
At some point someone must have realized while rolling their beads around in their hands that it could be used as a device for transporting things. Now I’m curious to look up the alternative history of the bead, the ones that have been forgotten about with development of the wheel.
What do you think was the original use case of the bead?

Hi, I think it's used to count prayers repetitions.
"Accounts" to count.
Both Buddhists and Mohammedans used account circles to make their prayers.
Then, when Catholicism was founded, they took this custom for their prayers, they use a rosary; of counts.
This is not used by Jesus or his disciples.
I believe you may be correct, used for accounting dating way back to the 1600 using abacus 🧮 prior to that they were used for counting prayers like you mentioned but deeply interwoven with decorative function.

I like how you brought the bead to the wheel :)
Now I am curious too
The origin story of the wheel is seemingly lost in history but I speculate the bead came first 😉

I never even thought of the wheel when thinking of beads. I think of beads being used by different cultures for different reasons in the past.

Great question. Actually i will just say the original use of beads back then to my own understanding is to symbolise somethinh back then. Yo symbolise a culture or something like that
You could go even deeper with the symbolism of beads all the way back to first recorded uses being for counting things, like monks counting prayers 💪

Good question... I think we always had a sense of beauty. That we wanted to surround ourselves with precious things. And round is the shape of many seeds as well... Hmm - wheel - beads - bagels. Who knows what came first :)
Definitely not the bagel that was invented only recently 😅
My belief is our things deemed precious or beautiful relate back to status in a tribe and intrinsic value. Most things were deemed of value because of their function and requirement for life except gold(the use of gold is surrounded by conspiracy in history). So I wonder what was the bead originally created for, like what function?
