Food is my Love Language: 5 Minute Freewrite, Prompt: Frosting a Cake

The most recent cake I did was for my youngest grandson's first birthday party. He is quite the 'Wild Thing"
;)

This is going to be a freewrite that I couldn't help but think of ahead of time. No fictional stuff here today!

Seeing today's prompt made me realize just how many cakes I've made over the years... which led me to realize just how much I love to make cakes for people (No, That's not quite right. Not just cake, but food in general.) Maybe I'm becoming like my grandma more and more... I love cooking meals for my family, I love cooking and sending home extras with my kids who no longer live at home. I find myself echoing those oft heard words at my grandma's house "Have you eaten?" "Are you hungry?" when my grown kids come over to visit (which is often... and I don't think that it's JUST because of my cooking!)

Icing and cakes are one of my favorite things, though. It can be frustrating when things aren't working out, but I have hundreds of photos on my computer from birthdays past. All of them hold so many memories and stories... I think I could probably write an entire post for each one! We were always so broke when the kids were growing up, sometimes the special cake was about the only gift (cake mixes and frosting ingredients are cheap!) but they always always appreciated it and loved the cakes.

We used to have birthday parties that were so much fun, even without money. One year we did a party for the boys where we collected a bunch of old broken gadgets, CD/DVD players, TVs whatever and bought each kid a party favor of a screwdriver from the Dollar Tree and they spent sooooo long carefully taking apart all of the electronics that they didn't even want to stop to make homemade pizzas and eat cake!

Or the cake decorating party where each kid got their own little cake, decorating lessons and had a ton of fun.

Jaedin's (@knightengale) 9th birthday party where they made slime and did 'Mad Scientist' experiments with Patrick @serapium

The Redwall party where Patrick taught the boys how to make slingshots and we did an archery contest of sorts.

The many variations of dressup parties that the girls did... and parties that they had for their own dolls/stuffed animals and went all out making decorations and decorating cakes for their 'kids'...

Ahhhh... memories! Yeah, I could write a lot of posts on birthdays and cakes! :)

Wow, you are quite the cakeologist...very impressive. Great freewrite, and I think you should do a post(s) on cakes. You could make a lot of them.
Have you ever seen the internet site Bad Cake Wrecks? It's a classic. All sorts of bad cakes that are being sold, photographed at the store. A little mean spirited in a way, I suppose, but still very funny.

Thank you! I used to love that site years ago but I had forgotten all about it, thanks for the reminder! :) I'll probably make some birthday cake story posts as birthdays come up throughout the year. My middle daughter turns 20 this month, so I could revisit some of hers first! :)

Thanks for the compliment :)

I'm catching up with yesterday's cake stories. I think I want one. 😀

Thank you! :) They are pretty yummy, although I'm not generally fond of cake, but with homemade buttercream frosting? Yes please!

Wow! Just Wow! How many talents you have! I'm able to make only plumcake, butter cookies and jam crostate ... I'm quite selfish, since they're my favorite desserts! :P

I am (unfortunately for my healthy eating) very good at baking desserts! :)

Thank you for the comment. I don't think I've had plumcake or jam crostate... I'm going to have to google that last one!

This is a jam crostata. I don't know how to call it in English.

Ooooh, this reminds me of my grandma's pies. She made such gloriously perfect flaky crusts. It looks beautiful!

Note: I took this photo from Google, that's not one of my pies 😉

Ahhh... well here I was all impressed with your perfectly symmetrical crust designs! :)

You are a sweet artist, what beautiful cakes.
I love your work @byn

Thank you so much! What a wonderful comment :)

Grandson? married daughter? Wow I was thinking you're like late 30's. You're the hottest Grandmother i know. By the way, I'm cake - hungry now.

Haha :) That's the best thing I've heard all day! Thank you <3

I'm wanting some cake myself!

I love the passion of this piece! You did a great job here and I can't wait to see more.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

What captivating confections. I’d say you’re inundated with party invitations.
It’s your indefatigable free write encourager here with today’s challenge: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-146-5-minute-freewrite-wednesday-prompt-monkey

OOOOOH!!! GREAT freewrite prompt for me, thank you! I guess I should have saved my purple monkey tattoo post for this :)

Thank you!

Loved the taking apart the tv's and such. Sometimes, it is much better not to have money - better parties. Otherwise, it sucks...
I am hoping you will make many cake posts and tell all those stories. I see a book....

You are so creative! I love the story and the pics.

Thank you. It has been a nice way to get my creative side out, even when I was super busy with kids!
