RE: Friends – who are they and what the f*!k do they want?

in #freewrite7 years ago (edited)

I am no longer sure about the word/label 'friend'; the concept within me has undergone a change as I myself have. I can imagne 'friendliness' or a 'friendly attitude' as manifesting an honest, open and welcoming presence, free from own emotional baggage, agenda, prejudice (one can still discuss difficult issues, pain, joy etc), such that the other is comfortable being themselves and has the space in which to self-express without having to fight for elbow room (and, I guess vice-versa :). I suspect that when I fully make friends with myself, showing @barge all the elements of support that you list under 'what a real friend' wants, then I will have a better understanding of this aspect of human interaction. I will then also be able to offer to others what I am able to give to myself.......getting there :)

That's brilliant, Barge. I totally omitted being a good friend to oneself!!! That is the most important relationship of them all.

Another great point. It's good to let people be who they are in a friendly manner --
unless they're acting out psychopathically at the time :S

Thanks for your insightful comments.
