My Freewrite: Clouds

in #freewrite6 years ago (edited)

The storks came back a month ago and every since they have been busy hatching babies and gathering food and supplies for their nests.

Today the cloudless sky and high winds proved to be perfect conditions for the soaring high storks. They seem majestic and graceful as they circle above our house with sits on the edge of a floodplain (their favorite hunting ground). Their nest is 500 meters away but they often use our roof as a perch to sun themselves or spot prey.

I have to wonder though, do they see my hatchlings as prey? If they can carry a baby to a new mother can they carry a toddler away from a seasoned father? Doubtful.

The kids sure do enjoy watching the storks even though they did get a little close at times today.

These are white storks that migrate all they way to Africa in the winter. Always nice to see them return.

I took these pictures with my iPhone 8 plus.

Sort:

They do eat little birds and rabbits but no kids ….I hope.

Me too! But, there has to be some truth behind every fairytale right? 😂😂😂

I remember being a child and seeing white storks building their nests close to my grandma's village which is about 2000 kilometers away from where you live, North of Germany from what I remember. They must travel a lot and if they go to Africa during winter I don't get why they don't stay there the whole year. I don't remember seeing any during winter. I do remember abandoned nests though.

Crazy how they do it. No idea why. But they are cool like living dinosaurs they actually left a little early last year because we had a really bad drought and there was no food left.

How wonderful to see Storks so close by. Your children enjoy seeing the big birds. No storks on PEI. The closest bird to them here would be the Great Blue Heron.

That too is a beautiful bird! It college I was lucky enough to see one up close and they too are enormous. Hard to believe that they can go airborne with such grace.

I'm sure you have nothing to worry about with storks stealing toddlers 😉 though now I'm curious how the whole "stork bringing a newborn baby" thing came about... hmm!!

Me too! They still say here in Germany if you see one, you’ll have a kid. But I see one every day 🤔

This was so lovely to read and look at. I don't think I have ever seen a stork.
If they can carry a baby to a new mother can they carry a toddler away from a seasoned father? Love that line.

Thank you so much! I never saw one before either. They are really good hunters though. And they have a really strange sound, like a crocodile or something.
