Yes, it is a quite misleading term. Actually the data is stored in massive industrial scale data centers that create so much heat they need to be located on major water sources for cooling (like nuclear reactors).

I did not know that information, I would have imagined they would produce a fair amount of heat but to actually require being by a water source for cooling brings the sustainability into question in the same way as mining centres for electricity.
