SUCCESSFUL (5-minute Freewrite)

"The Dukes of Sussex," he boasted. "That's what they call us. Just a hold over from an old eighties sitcom. We both loved the Dukes of Hazzard see..." the tall man said.

"I'm not concerned with what you call yourselves. Will it work?" The large man took another deep draw on his thick cigar.

"Mr. Bennett, sir, you'll see from the projected numbers that..." the smaller man offered.

"Yes, I've reviewed your figures. I've examined the product. I've even shared it with a few, uhh, business associates." This last statement he made with a swirling finger in the air. "What I am asking you boys is, will it work?"

The two looked at each other realizing their future depended not only on their answer, but on how believable they could make it sound. Each swallowed hard.

"Well? Are we three going to be a success? Or not?"

Thick cigar smoke rose to the ceiling of the tall office, and drifted back down in slow waves.
