MASK (5-minute Freewrite)

MASK - a 5-minute Freewrite by A.E. Jackson

The mask fell from his face and clattered against the cold marble. The red ribbon in her hair fell like a feather and draped across the mask like a blood red tear.

Not two hours ago they had been laughing, flirting, and making plans for later that night. It was their first Festival of Shadows, and both intended to live life to the fullest.

However, the sharp point of a rusty blade held in the hands of a jealous lover put an end to those dreams. For his part, Daniel walked away without remorse, and sought another victim.

It was the Festival of Shadows after all. The one night when laws were suspended, and to escape with one's life was the greatest thrill one could hope to experience.
