ELECTION (5-minute Freewrite)
a 5-minute Freewrite by A.E. Jackson

The line of women dressed in sheer white veil dresses was led by a red robed figure at one end of the long rope.
From her position, the young blonde could see half a dozen girls ahead of her. Each bound to the line just as she was. How many trod behind her was anyone's guess.
The faceless assembled throng, all dressed in heavy black robes, which encircled the dancing fire ring were silent and observant.
She chose to be among the elevated. Now it was up to them to decide who would pass on.
A low gong echoed through the chamber as the chain of girls closed their loop around the fire.
The red robed figure walked behind each girl. Their dresses fluttered in the air shifted by the heavy red robe.
A heavy wooden mallet raised high. The dark stain of years dropped quickly onto the exposed head of one girl who crumpled. Her bright white dress spattered with blood.
The others cheered, and embraced the Elected who were now a part of their sisterhood.

This does not sound like an election that I would want. Very good writing.

Awesome feedback - thank you @angelacs! It was a fun one to write - and came out of left filed - Thank you so much for reading.
What a horrible scene to witness, even if it's only through words. Good writing though!
And since I figured you might like to write some more, here's the latest prompt:

@honeydue I appreciate the reminder for the next prompt! And thanks for reading 'Election'. I am honestly glad that I was able to make some readers cringe a little at the scene. It lets me know I am on the right path as I try to improve my writing - Thanks!
Argh. that reminds me of the lottery... Not an election I want to be part of - in any capacity...
Well done. Stomach wrenching good.
Oh yes, @mariannewest! Shirley Jackson's Lottery is one of my favorites! Thank you so much for this great daily writing prompt. I was at a 'stuck point' in my writing, and the 5-minute freewrite has cleared the cobwebs. I appreciate you reading - thanks!
