143 Sepulvada Avenue - Freewrite

For those of you not familiar with the freewrite, you basically have 5 minutes to write a story, beginning to end. Then post it to your page.

Below is my attempt to tell a story in 5 minutes using the prompt "Grocery list"

"Excuse me sir, do you live here"

"Yes I do"

"Hello, I'm Tom, nice to meet you"

"Axel"

"Hello Axel, have you ever considered changing your life assurance policy?" asked the salesman.

"I'll stop you there Tom, I am fine for life assurance policies, thank you very much. You have a good day now, all the best"

The salesman went to the next house, and Axel turned back towards 143 Sepulveda Avenue. He found the door unlocked, strange, he was almost certain he had locked it that morning. He walked around the kitchen and something didn't seem quite right - it was as if someone had re-arranged everything. The grocery list on the counter listed items that neither he nor his wife typically ate.

Then suddenly, there were blue flashing lights outside the front door. Axel was arrested and brought downtown for questioning. He was confused and incoherent. Hours later his wife arrived to the station and stopped to speak with the detectives.

"Mam, your husband was found breaking and entering at 143 Sepulveda Avenue this afternoon"

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry officer, Alex has severe dyslexia. We live at 134 Sepulveda Avenue. He must have gotten confused, and thought that it was our house"

"Ah right, it all makes sense now. The houses on your street are all identical, there was no sign of forced entry and your husband was adamant that it was his house"
