No it is not a futuristic project, Solar Road is already a reality!

In fact, since 2016, they have been introduced on motorways in France and on cycle paths in the Netherlands.
But what are these Solar Roads?
These are roads that can collect the sun's energy through solar panels installed under the road surface.
Since the road surfaces are exposed to the sun all day long, considerable amounts of energy can be accumulated.
In view of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, the city administration has decided to introduce ecological solar roads in addition to creating floors that produce electricity from the vibrations caused by the passage of pedestrians.
Tokyo is expanding its interest in renewable energy sources, in fact its goal is to ensure that renewables represent 30% of the city's energy consumption by 2030.
The first solar road was inaugurated in France, as written above, in 2016 and it was the first time in the world that such innovation was made operational on roads driven by cars and heavy vehicles.

The RDS Tourouvre Au Perche in the north of France, paved for 2800 square meters with solar panels, is able to provide the energy needs of about 5000 inhabitants.
Unfortunately, the introduction of this fantastic innovation depends on the high costs for its realization
and unfortunately they slow down its spread worldwide.
In fact, the French state for its ecological work had to shell out about 5 million euros.

Unfortunately, impact 0 very often does not correspond to cost 0.

But here it is a revolutionary project that could have important effects on both mobility and energy efficiency policies around the world.
Despite the costs, using the roads to produce energy still has advantages:
firstly, we use a space already used for other purposes such as the circulation of cars and in this way we do not occupy or eliminate agricultural land.
This is the production of clean energy without the use of fossil sources, therefore less pollution and zeroing of the costs of public lighting bills.
Furthermore, this type of innovation brings wealth, economic growth and new jobs.
In addition to the , French model, where it is not necessary removing the existing structure, but can be applied directly to the existing floor, ensuring the necessary electrical requirements of a single house with 20 m² of Wattway panels; there is the US project.

The US project: Solar Roadways is an Idaho startup that's developed a system of modular solar panels. It involves the construction of panels made up of thousands of microprisms, the most superficial layer of the mantle is made of a raw glass, very resistant, also atmospheric agents, with photovoltaic cells and LED diodes inside; the intermediate layer that contains a microprocessor for load control and lighting monitoring and the bottom layer will be used to distribute the energy collected from the intermediate layer to the control units.

In short, these new technologies could completely change the appearance and technology of road infrastructure, in addition to the numerous alternative solutions in the field of motoring and public transport, in the near future we will be driving more and more electric cars, both with natural gas systems and with bi-fluel engines, on roads with photovoltaic asphalt and bicycles and pedestrians paths that create energy through the vibrations produced by the passage of pedestrians and bicycles.
