What do you observe while watching television?

When you come home after a long busy day and start television which channels do you like to watch? I think many of you would like to watch news on television or see documentaries on infotainment channels like Discovery channel, National Geographic channel or Animal Planet. When you watch these infotainment channels do you observe anything worth noticeable? How many of you like to watch documentaries on wildlife?

The hidden message in wildlife documentaries.

We should observe the behavior of herbivorous animals like the deer, gazelles, mountain goats, wildebeests, etc. What these animals do? These animals feed on grass and tree leaves. These animals are very strong and never hesitate to fight for winning females or securing territory for themselves. Many times in this pursuit they kill their opponents too. But when a hunter like a leopard, tiger etc attacks them, what do they do? They don’t fight back. In fact, they prefer to run away. They never unite to confront the hunters. They watch members of their family to be killed and eaten by hunters. For some moments they watch this action and soon start their routine course of grazing as nothing had happened.

Humans also exhibit the same behavior. People don’t fight against tyranny, exploitation, cruelty etc. because they think this is the duty of someone else. They helplessly watch criminals to commit a crime but they do nothing.

You have seen in many parts of the world that big criminals, mafia bosses, despotic rulers are revered. They are masters for many. This is the reality of human beings that when a powerful criminal commits a crime, people watch him but don't confront him. They pity the victim but they don’t come forward to take any action. But when they find any weak person involved in petty crimes, they don’t pity on him. Here their hidden heroism comes out vigorously. They pounce on that hapless person and beat him till he succumbs to their blows. This has happened in many times in the Indian subcontinent that mob lynched hungry persons for stealing food. Those hungry persons stole food because they had no other option left. This should be a matter of shame for the society that people are forced to steal food items, but they were treated as if they had committed a heinous crime. In this world weaker persons are never left while big criminals are seldom attacked.

What is wrong with us?

As human beings, we are divided in many groups based on myriad traits like caste, religions, creeds, color, ethnicities, nationalities, languages and ideologies etc. which again intersect each other. We prefer things that suit our group interest. Unfair behavior is not an issue for us till it’s not done with us. We act as a herd; we don’t behave as a group of wise individuals. So our problem is our herd mentality that never lets us to act as a responsible individual who comes forward to confront wrong.

Those hunters (mafia, politicians etc) know what mob thinks. They manipulate the mob and use it for serving their own purposes. For this they put bait in the disguise of religious, ethnical, national interests etc. because they know it is easier to unite people in the name of group interest and they can do anything in the name of shielding and serving their group.

It is supposed that police and military serve a nation but it is not right because they are the groups that serve only the power holder. If their masters order them otherwise, they won’t hesitate to persecute or kill innocent citizens of the nation of which service they are employed. They are groomed to follow orders, not taking decisions.

Conclusion.

Our attitude is responsible for many of our sufferings. This can only change if people realize their true power and call a spade a spade. Also, they need to support the people who are struggling for the causes of the majorities. Besides this, they require to condemn the miscreants, no matter how dear they may be for them.
