Entry For Foxtales #3 - "Awakening"

Here's my first entry for the writing contest #foxtales by @vermillionfox:

The thin mist covering the street of Minnesota turns Sam's breath into white smoke as he continues to walk by a deserted park. His heart sinks to the pit of his stomach and an unfamiliar, unsettling feeling starts to take over. Ten years have passed since he was last here. The local park is no longer filled with the laughter of kids, the playschool stays still with a "closed" sign hanging at its gate. Sam thinks of the people he came to see today. No news has reached his ears all this time. What if they no longer want to do anything with the boy who left in a rage? What if he is still hated? What if they refuse to recognize him? As he continues to wonder, he notices an aged man sitting alone in the farthest bench of the park. His silhoutte and familiar red hair gives him away almost suddenly and reminds Sam of the thing he has been missing all these years. He takes a deep breath. The white fumes surge in front of him to block his view. An unknown courage pushes him forward and he holds up his jacket to cover his red nose, setting off towards the man with anticipation and hesitation in his eyes.
