in #foraging7 years ago

Starfruit is one of the most important cooking spice for Aceh people.

From the first, until today, starfruit/leatherback become an integral part of Aceh cuisine. So, not be surprised if the fruit is found in every home residents. For culinary spice, the fruit is often used as pickles are referred to as "asam sunti".

The production is very simple. It only requires a fresh star fruit, then given the salt and the drying under the sun. Green color will change to brown. And the drying process takes several days.

In the picture above, you can see how the form of "asam sunti" and how the fresh shape of star fruit.

This characteristic has lasted a long time in Aceh. And making spices always fill the kitchens in my area.

Know the typical star fruit from Aceh

Star fruit has a structure that is almost the same as cucumber, but its small size, and inside it, there are 90% water.

Sometimes, in some places these fruits also used as the vinegar, by squeezing the water content from the star fruits.

This tree has a structure are same as usual tree (in general), but this kind of these star fruit growing not only on the stalk, but on the main stem of the tree also has a fruits.

When we want to reap these fruits, we don't bother to climb up the tree, moreover, because the trees brittle and could break at any time.

How to pick it pretty easy, because the fruit does not grow at the top of the course.

It is the shape of flowers and leaves, as you can see.

If you come to Aceh, I will invite you to eat a variety of dishes in Aceh, such as sour spicy, spiced, and some other foods, which use "asam sunti" as a marinade.
