MANCHESTER CITY VS LIVERPOOL - MATCH REVIEW

in #football6 years ago (edited)

The match would have decided who lifts the trophy if the reds won. They will be ahead of Manchester City with 10 points if that happens, but thanks to Aguero and Sane, the league is still open to anyone - especially the top four. City's win placed them ahead of Tottenham, and Liverpool still have 4 points to protect. With 20 matches gone, anything could happen. That's the ideology behind football.

Etihad was filled with fans. It was obvious they weren't City and Reds' fans alone - others wanted to see the fate of the league or their clubs. Few minutes to the match, the starting lineup was revealed, and one wouldn't tell who would come out victorious because both teams were complete. The safest prediction would have been a draw.

Manchester City's lineup

Both teams played the 4-3-3 formation. Kompany, Stones, Laporte and Danilo were the four defenders for Manchester City while Van Dijk, Lovren, Alexander and Robertson defended for Liverpool. Fernandinho, David Silva and Bernando Silva were seen in City's midfield while Wijnaldum, Henderson and Milner secured Liverpool's midfield. City's attackers were Sane, Sterling and Aguero while Liverpool played Mane, Salah and Firmino.

Manchester City tried to calm the ball in the early minutes of the game, but Liverpool were attacking as usual. They got a clear chance in the 20th minute. Salah assisted Mane with a beautiful pass, but the Senegalese hit the goal post. Stones tried to clear it out but it hit the goal keeper instead, and the ball was directed towards the goal post again, but Stones later saved the day. Goal line technology decided it wasn't a goal.

No goal

Manchester City got the first goal of the match in the 40th minute. A lovely ball from Bernando Silva got to Aguero who played it well into the net. That goal made the arena calm, but no other goal was scored in the first half. Klopp and Guardiola definitely had a lot to do after the first half whistle was blew.

Liverpool started attacking in the second half. Since they are the one behind, they needed to equalize first, and they got that equalizer in the 64th minute. Andy Robertson got the assist. He played the ball out, and Firmino's waiting head did well to get it into the net. But their struggles lasted for 8 minutes. Manchester City got the last goal in the match in the 72nd minute. Leroy Sane scored a wonderful game and that ended the match. The remaining minutes of the game was filled with attempts from both sides, but none of them could get a goal in again.

Leroy Sane's winning goal

The English Premier league continues this weekend. Let's hope Liverpool continues winning. But their unbeaten record has finally been destroyed. Funnily enough, Liverpool stopped Manchester City's unbeaten record last season, while City stopped theirs yesterday.

Until we meet again next time.
