CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGE FINAL MATCHES [DAY ONE]

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are known for Champions league matches, and the fixtures today would determine who goes and who stays. All teams have played five matches already; some of them still stand a chance to qualify for the next stage while some have gotten an automatic qualification because of what they’ve played. Let’s analyze all the fixtures and see who still stand a chance. Group A – D will be playing today while others will play tomorrow, but I’ll be focusing on tonight’s matches.

GROUP A

Atletico Madrid is currently on top of the table with 12 points, Borussia Dortmund is behind with 10 points. Both teams performed brilliantly and they’ve already qualified. Club Brugge is in the third position with 5 points, while Monaco got just one point in all matches. Group A has been decided already; Club Brugge gets the Europa spot, while Monaco leaves both tournaments.

But the first spot isn’t guaranteed though. A draw or loss from Atletico Madrid might pull them back if Borussia Dortmund wins theirs. Dortmund will be visiting France tonight to defeat Monaco again while Atletico will face a stronger team, Club Brugge.

GROUP B

Tottenham and Inter Millan has 7 points each with the same goal difference, and they wouldn’t be facing each other. Tottenham’s fate is in the hands of Barcelona, while PSV will face Inter Millan. Well, Barcelona has qualified already with 13 points, and PSV isn’t going anywhere even if they win – the Dutch team has just 1 point.

Tottenham is facing a greater battle because they are travelling down to Nou Camp while Inter Millan will be welcoming PSV to San Siro. Anything can happen in football, so we can’t decide who will get the second spot yet.

GROUP C

This is the toughest group so far. We should expect a lot of dramas from this group tonight. Only two teams will advance to the next stage and this last match will decide that in this group; meaning nobody has an automatic qualification yet. Napoli is currently on top with 9 points ahead of PSG with 8 points. The Italian team will be travelling to Anfield to face Liverpool with 6 points. If the English team wins them, then their chances of qualifying will be very slim.

PSG has a good chance of topping the group, because the match against Napoli and Liverpool might lead to a draw. But FK Crvena wouldn’t give them a winning chance because they also stand a chance of getting the Europa spot (third position). FK Crvena has 4 points and seven points would mean a lot to them.

GROUP D

The only thing worth fighting for in this group is the third spot. FC Porto has qualified already with 13 points; Schalke 04’s 8 points gives them the second spot and they also got an automatic qualification. Galatasaray is behind with 4 points, and Locomotiv Moscow isn’t ruled out with their 3 points. Moscow will be facing Schalke 04, while Galatasaray will play against the champion of the group.

It’s just a matter of time to find out who gets that spot.
