Hot Pot
Yesterday was my first time having a hot pot experience. One of my friends is from China and he is used to this type of dining. He invited us to one of his favorite places so we can catch up while having a nice meal.
It was a bit weird at first. We each picked the soup we wanted - I picked the least spicy one. Then we ordered a bunch of food to cook in the soup. Beef, chicken, lamb, meatballs, seafood, veggies. Then we grabbed dipping sauces to our liking. I chose sesame sauce with peanuts. I think we went a little overboard with it but we still finished up all of it. I have to mention there was four of us, two guys and two girls.
We basically had to cook every piece of food in the boiling soup in front of us. It was hard to tell how much each of us ate. Eating piece by piece while fishing for the food was a challenge for me.
I have to say though, the food was delicious and I suppose healthy too. What I learned about myself was that I prefer cooked meal served on a plate. No self-cooking; I will do that when I eat at home.

I learnt something today, its a nice concept for a restaurant but has its disadvantage,
Ha ha I know how you feel... I like to have my own plate of food already cooked and I'm not big on sharing while I'm eating! Still your photo does look delicious!

After 15 years in China I still haven’t taken a liking to hit pot . Like you I prefer the food served ready on the plate.
In China food and eating together is one of the biggest parts of the culture and in this aspect it can be nice because you sit and eat together for a long time
I prefer taking time and eating in company so I support that kind of dining. But some habits are just too hard to change.
