UK brewers invest in low-alcohol drinks trend
UK brewers invest in low-alcohol drinks trend (The Guardian)
According to research firm CGA, no- and low-alcohol (“nolo”) drinks were worth £60m to the pub trade in the UK last year, highlighting the strength of the structural “hangover-free drinking” trend.
Euromonitor reports that sales volumes of “nolo” beer have risen by c. 18% in the past five years in western Europe and are expected to climb another 12% by the end of 2022, with growth in the UK even stronger.
As a result, large brewers and drink makers have made their own moves in the category, with Diageo acquiring non-alcoholic spirit Seedlip while Anheuser-Busch InBev and Heineken have launched dozens of low- and non-alcoholic beers.
Analysis and Comments
- Well-timed comes the news that AB InBev have added another four new no- and low-alcohol craft beers (calling them “nolo” will take a bit of getting used to…) to its portfolio, which are set to debut nationwide in spring.
