Ultimate Vegan Pizza Order! (Your '2 For 1 Special' In This Post: 1 Vegan Pizza + 1 Pizza Rap From Mac Lethal)

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Maybe the most common objection people have to going Vegan is that they can't let go of cheese (and thus pizza). In reality there are now many forms of vegan cheeses that can be used to recreate every non-vegan recipe that calls for cheese. In the last year I have found in Britain the range of pizzas from One Planet Pizza that really do a great job of providing vegan pizza for the masses.

I rarely recommend any kind of manufactured products to anyone, since I disagree with the practices and processes involved in the vast majority of products in mass production, however, sometimes I find exceptions and anything which can help us stop the mass abuse of animals via 'dairy' will definitely become an exception!

Today I picked up a Mediterranean Roasted Vegetable Pizza which is totally plant based, uses partially organic ingredients and has added sources of Omega 3s too! How often do you find a pizza that can actually claim to boost health!?

Just a few minutes in the oven and it's ready.. The taste and balance are pretty great and easily beats many store bought dairy pizzas I ate before becoming vegan long ago.

Your 2 for 1 Special! The Ultimate Pizza Order From Mac Lethal

Since I'm on the topic of pizza, I thought I'd share this really great video from the rapper 'Mac Lethal', where he calls up for Pizza Delivery and asks for what must surely be the most epic pizza order of all time! Injoy!

"Hey can you do that rap again for my boss!"

Hahaha - Great Rap!

He's definitely one of the best unknown rappers of all time!

Love it! Great pizza rap :D And I couldn't agree more, I try to stay away from overly processed or manufactured foods, and I try to keep to organic homemade recipes. I will definitely check out One Planet Pizza though, sounds like they have great ingredients. Do you have any vegan cheese brands you would recommend?

I'm not sure if you will be able to find the same brands in Canada as I can buy here.. but the one that I tend to buy is called 'vio life'. It's not 'amazing' but it is just a simple cheese replacement, that if you gave to a dairy eater who didn't know it was non dairy then they would just think it was an uninspired dairy cheese.
I have had some fairly nasty vegan 'cheeses' too though!
The cheese that's used on that pizza is called 'Sheese' - but I haven't tried it on it's own, so I don't know if it is good or not outside of the pizza context ;)

Great, thanks for the helpful info! :)

It looks delicious! I honestly think this is the future and we'll get to the point when we can stop abusing animals at all or at least minimise it... i can see more and more meat-eaters choosing vegan and vegetarian options and eating meat as a treat. I'm one of them, hopefully I can quit eating meat sometime in the future. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, it is our future as it is balance and the future of earth is going to be balance. :)

Thanks @ura-soul for the recommendation on the One Planet pizzas.

One of my daughters is vegan and she has been taking us on that journey.

Cheese, and pizzas, has been one of the sticking points - particularly for my other two daugthers.

Unfortunately the nearest shop stocking these pizzas is two hours away in Cardiff, but I've found them available online from Alternative Stores :

I've ordered one of each to try. I'll let you know how they go down.

Great! Thanks for the link - I see there is another manufacturer who makes vegan pizza there too. I think I've tried all of the range by now - the Mediterranean one is probably my favourite.
Sainsburys sell a vegan soft cheese that is a great replacement for primula type soft cheeses - it's in their 'free from' range. ;)

I hear you! We usually don't buy processed foods either, but like you said anything that supports a sustainable plant-based lifestyle is good and worth a try ;)

Yes, there are actually some manufacturers who produce goods that are close to the quality you would make at home - I know of two here at least.

It is frustrating not finding pre-made vegan pizzas very often. I think if only these supermarket companies knew how many of them they would sell they would definitely start producing them and making profit on them. Give it a few years we'll probably see vegan pizzas in most shops..... hopefully!

There are a couple of independent food suppliers near me who specialise in higher quality pre-prepared meals like pizzas and pies etc. - they stock organic items and vegan items too.. If the main supermarkets start using these ideas then they will lower the quality as they always do.
I wouldn't hold your breath though, since I am aware that the supermarkets here go to great lengths to put dairy alternatives in fairly hidden locations in their shop layouts so that the people who will only by them will eventually find them and continue to be customers, but the majority of shoppers will never even realise that the alternatives exist..

I'm a big fan of the large supermarkets selling specialty vegan food like cheese and meats because it increases the public awareness of veganism and brings it to mainstream culture away from the "fringes". Anything that can decrease the sale and consumption of animal products is a good thing.

Sure, yes - they could do a lot more to make these products obvious in many cases though. I did see in a big sainsburys here today that they now have added about 8-10 nut milks and some of them are organic - so that's a step in the right direction.
