A change of diet and mindsetsteemCreated with Sketch.

So, Sunday as part of my ‘Dining out in Cape Town’ blog I did a review of J’s Bistro & Delicatessen. In that post I specifically drew attention to my cool Cape Town Steemit T-Shirt ….. and inadvertently to my portly self. As my dear gal said to me….. “Why would you want to do that? You are in poor shape”.

Being a man of action…. And fragile ego I spun into action

In the past I had read some Steemit blogs about smoothies and juicing but thought it was not for me. I mean really even in that picture above I am juicing .. malt, hops …… healthy, not so?

Bouncing around the internet I stumbled on this website and watched this video called fat,sick and nearly dead. This inspired me to haul out the juicer which was gathering dust (not really... reached for the credit card and bought one)

I decided to do a 10 day detox to kick start a healthy weight loss program including such diabolically evil things such as exercise, low alcohol beer, more exercise and low ‘light’ wines.

The thought of giving up my daily tipple never even entered my mind

Preparing my breakfast

Slow juicer to prevent oxidization within the juice. No blades involved, just an augur which crushes the heck out of the stuff and a gentle spin to separate the juices

Day 0ne - Breakfast is served

I was seriously unhappy yesterday mentally as I suddenly craved deep fried potato chips and hamburgers. These are not part of my daily diet. Also my ingredient ratio was not so good and I ‘beet’ myself to death.

This morning’s breakfast and my lunch for today…

Breakfast apple, cucumber, ginger and mint

lunch consists of carrots, red onion, clove garlic, 1 stalk celery, fresh ginger and tomatoes

I feel better today, unlike yesterday when my body was in some sort of shock. I am also slightly more optimistic today than I was yesterday. I can maybe do this. I need protein as I am starting an exercise regime so will eat a normal dinner each evening.

The pulp I believe can be used for muffins and biscuits etcetera but I am not that advanced… so off to the bokashi bucket..

Tapped some bokashi tea this morning. That amount makes around 200 litres of plant food

Thanks for reading and please feel free to comment below with your experience with juicing or other healthy eating / drinking habits. Also any pitfalls I should avoid whilst 'juicing' such as operating heavy machinery when light headed {grin}

Good luck! I posted a recipe a while back that uses carrot pulp, if you're interested. https://steemit.com/food/@kiwideb/carrot-almond-bread-and-variations-on-a-theme

Excellent! Thanks @kiwideb.... I shall definitely have a look at that ... and thanks for reading my post. It is actually just to keep me motivated to follow the 10 program... mild headache starting to kick in {frown}

withdrawal probably... helping people change their diets is what I do, so my eyes are drawn to the words "change of diet" like a magnet! I haven't heard of the 10 program though.

Typo @kiwideb ..... 10 day program..and it is not so much a program as a 'I doubt I could handle much longer' timeline {smile}. So you are a nutritionist?

A nutrition coach. I specialise in helping people with food sensitivities, and am a GAPS practitioner (Gut & Psychology Syndrome). You must be about 4 days in by now - how is it going? @sift666 and I did a water fast a couple of months ago. It wasn't as hard as I feared. But we only did 3 days.

Snot nose sore throat... a bit bone weary {smile}... Spirits are lifted by an hour walk in soft falling rain. Damn, we need it.
As regards the juicing. Day four today. It is pretty easy during the day, am a bit more organised now having purchased 3 x 300ml bottles with ice rods in the middle... so I drink at 3 hour intervals after having a big juice for breakfast.I do eat evening meal but a half portion. I have lost 2.1 kg's in three days. I also do a 3-4 km walk every morning...my dog has habits {grin}. I appreciate the interest, so thanks.
Edit: Oh yes, I did spend quite some time on your blog reading the GAP. series. Very interesting and something new to me.

Looks a fantastic recipe..... I will have a go at it this weekend. And of course I will blog it giving you full credit {grin}.

thank god, we were afraid you would not blog about it. whew, crisis averted

Cool... nice post. I am glad we have a comedian on board. A royal 'WE' as well...nice man. I am thrilled to be in the presence of royalty..with humour...bonus!

Spinach and apple go really well together....it doesn't look like you'll get bored with your flavours any time soon though!

Ha! Thanks for that @benjojo .... spinach is healthy... and cheap at present and I can grow that easily. This evening I will be planting beetroot and swiss chard seeds, in containers though due to a drought here
