We had been walking around Koh Kret, which is an island in the Chaopraya river 20 km north of Bangkok. when we past a la sign saying fried ice-cream in Thai. We were immediately drawn in by the prospect of trying a new dessert and our son always loves to eat ice-cream (who doesn't?).

You can see the sign in blue at the top left of the photo above. My son was mesmerised by the flavours on the side of the fryer, you can see the lady at the back preparing the tasty treat. She only had vanilla, or vanilla chocolate chip, so my son took the second option. The fried- ice-cream lady went to her freezer to get the scoop of choice. The ball of ice-cream was covered in a thick layer of batter, but she left me with very little time to take a quick snap. It think she was worried it would melt before she zapped it in the fryer!?

I wanted to get close when she was frying, but she asked us to stand back, as obviously hot oil could spit out and burn us! It was nice to know that the lovely old fried ice-cream lady was thinking about our safety!

I took no time to fry the ice-cream in batter, the lady scooped it out at light speed, before we even knew it she had covered it in a generous layer of chocolate sauce and sprinkles!

It was possible to get this one shot of the culinary treat due to two reasons. Firstly my son didn't want to mess around waiting for his dad to try and capture food porn shots and secondly the lovely lady said he should eat it quickly before all of the ice-cream had melted inside! The eating it up quickly was obviously no problem for my little dessert destroyer!

Destruction of the Creation

Following are some shots of the dessert destroyer in action, he obviously enjoyed it as he didn't say a word until the sweet treat had been demolished. He left me a little bit of the batter, but the ice-cream was long gone by the time it was passed over to my hands!

From my son's satisfaction and the tiny bit I got to try, fried ice-cream is definitely worth a try, if you ever get a try why not give it a taste!
