in #food5 years ago

Small, large, sweet, sour or with a taste that is hard to describe. Each country has its favourite, original and unique. Fruits! They are the subject of this round of FOODspedition! The prize pool in this round is 6 STEEM!

How to take part in the FOODspedition?

➡ In the comment show us a picture of the fruit that comes from your country.
➡ Write its name and describe it briefly.
➡ In the comment, add also its estimated value for 1kg in your currency, US dollars and STEEM.

Important! If you are using an image that you are not the author please enter its source. I will check the entries and if the author does not provide the source of the photo or description he uses will be disqualified.

Members of the FOODspedition, who will take photos or prepare the whole dish on their own, have a much more chance to win a prize. 😉

What you can win?

From your comments I will choose and award three, in my opinion, the most interesting entries, and the authors will receive prizes! In the prize pool of that round we have 6 STEEM!

How to make an entry?

I will show you this on the example of funny fruit that I found in Malaysia.

Name: Rambutan
Country: Malaysia
Price per 1kg: 2 RM / 0.50 USD / 2 STEEM

Info: "Rambut" means "hair" in Malaysian, so the name of this beautiful fruit fits it perfectly. The whole it surface is covered with small red hairs, which make it look amazing.
The taste reminds lichi, they are juicy, sweet and very refreshing. In my opinion, they taste best peeled, put in water and cooled for a few hours in the fridge. During hot weather they are just perfect.

And now it's time for your entry!
Show us the fruit that comes from your country in the comment!

Good luck & have fun!

@fitinfun, I know you would get involved in this contest. Plus, you were wondering about the Fundition tag. You can see that in this post there is one tag that has a special unique code. This tag links this post to @the.foodini's dream to start a food truck business (which isa live campaign on Fundition), with the aim of promoting Steem and Crypto. The proceeds of this post will go towards funding that dream on Fundition until he reaches his eventual goal 😊 the reality of this dream is very much dependant on upvotes, donations and Steem price as the 'goals' are in USD.

@the.foodini I hope you don't mind that I used this space to show @fitinfun how this aspect of Fundition works. 😊 I'll be sure to look through my photos for fruit. The more unusual, the better 😉

@travelling-two no problem at all! I will only add that the project is worth promoting also outside the Steem because on Fundition.io recently appeared the option of paying a donation through PayPal. That's why I'm finishing steemtruck.site and plan to promote the project also in mainstream (Facebook, Instragram and Twitter).

Ah OK! Good to know for any future projects we have. I suggested Fundition to Sharon (@fitinfun) for a personal campaign, so I hope she will consider it 😊

Thanks @the.foodini, hopefully 2019 is the start of your food truck business! 🔜🚀

Name: Mamón
Country: Venezuela
Price per 1kg: 600BsS / 1 USD / 4 STEEM

Mamón is a fruit rich in vitamins A and C, minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron. This is one of my favorites fruits.

It is considered one of the eight exotic fruits of the planet and has many uses.

The fruit, which grows in large clusters, is a round drupe with thin green skin whose gelatinous, juicy and edible salmon-yellowish pulp encloses a large whitish seed, which is sucked to loosen the pulp.

Its flavor mixes sweetness and acidity proportionally which makes it a delight for almost any palate. In addition to delicious it is very good against some stomach upsets.

It has a beautiful color! Thank you for your entry @osmy07!
It's similar to the longan I tried in Thailand, but it looks waaaaay better. :)

Name: Yellow Mango
Country: Thailand (can be found elsewhere)
Price per 1kg: 65 THB / 2 USD / 8 STEEM

Mango (in Thai MA MUANG) is one of the oldest tropical plants and it's been grown by people for over 4000 years.

Mango fruits weigh from fifty grams to 1 kilogram or more and consist of 80% of water. As a rule, they are removed from the tree unripe, and ripen on the way to your table.

By the way, the export of mangoes from Thailand to other countries is more than 3 million tons annually, Thailand is the third country exporter of mango after India and China.

Long-living evergreen mango trees can bear fruit while being of the age of more than 300 years and can reach a height of 35-40 meters.

The tree yields only once a year, but due to the difference in climatic conditions in Thailand and due to the large diversity of varieties, mango can be found in markets and shops all year round.

Ripe mangoes are easily recognizable by the flavor.

The stalk of a ripe mango produce a sweet and sticky juice and its surface is generally smooth and slightly springy when lightly pressed with fingers. If after you have pressed it with your finger a dent remains - the fruit is overripe and once you buy it its best to eat it right away within the next few hours.

Wrinkled skin of the fruit, as well as the skin with black spots - a sure sign of over-ripeness.

@travelling-two mango is in the top three of my favourite fruits! I'm crazy about it! :)
Thank you for your entry!

You're welcome! Yes, it's a favourite of mine too. Since I'm leaving in over a week back TO Europe, I have asked my Mum to buy loads of Thai fruits and veggies that I know I won't find in the UK or if I do,... paid loads!

I love Thailand also because of the prices of fruits. On the street you can get pineapples, bananas, coconuts for $0.6! C'mon, it's madness! :)

Name: icaco
Country: Venezuela
Price: 1400 bs / 8Steem / 2$US

They are recognized by their purple color although they are also found white and inside they have a seed similar to the very rich almond. With these they prepare famous "icaco sweets" which is the only way I have tasted them, their knowledge is very soft and sweet and its texture is similar to that of a cotton.

Looks good @joseangelvs, thank you for your entry!

Name: Cambur
Country: Venezuela
Price: 300bs / 3 Steem

The cambur is a tropical fruit more popular and economic in my country Venezuela, is administered throughout the year, is rich in potassium, calcium, vitamins and minerals, in addition to having a high fiber content. With the cambur we elaborate different dishes, merengadas, juices, pancakes. It also prevents many diseases and is very good in emotional effects, I like Cambur very much, I eat all the time. The cambur is so popular in my country, that for the good tuning of the cuatro (typical musical instrument of Venezuela) we use the phrase "camburpinton".

Name: Limone di Amalfi 🍋
Country: Italy 🇮🇹
Price: 3€/3.38$/16.10 Steem

Info: Limone di Amalfi is not a simple lemon. It was born and grows only on this famous island near Ischia and Naples. The climate and the temperature are the best ones here for this special fruit.
Its taste is obviously acid but the juice is very great and bright yellow.
The lemon trees are very old and so big!
In the past and today people did not waste the peel, because they put it with the 100% alcohol: this extracts the juice from the peel too. Sugar is added to this mix and the result is called Limoncello, that is a tasty alcoholic drink.
