TacoCat's TrEats #107: Sweets for a Sweetheart 🍹
Hey Hive!
Recently, the Singapore government announced that there will basically be another lockdown, so unfortunately, we're unable to eat in restaurants and food courts/hawker centers now and can only do takeaways. We've also been limiting our time spent just being out in general, to be safe. So we've been ordering in and doing more takeouts nowadays, aside from cooking of course.
So a couple days ago, Sean and I went out for groceries and on the way back, he wanted to try these Taiwan drinks from ChiCha SanChen so we went to give it a try!
If you've never heard of this bubble tea chain before, CHICHA San Chen first originated in Taiwan and was founded in 1998, focused on making high-quality freshly brewed tea! And I read that all the tea they offer is specially handcrafted by Taiwanese tea masters with over 20 years of experience, including having its own tea mountain, and professional tea roasters and tasters! Talk about commitment to their craft! (Cr: CHICHA San Chen)
Their stall looks very modern and minimialist; with an open concept kitchen and a glass divider so customers can see the staff preparing their drinks right in front of them! It looked pretty professional too, with beakers and so many unique tools that reminded me of Chemistry lab days.
They had a special member program promotion where you could get 1-for-1 drink reward upon signing up to be their member so we did that and could buy 2 drinks for the price of 1! Nice!
So Sean chose one drink and I chose another. We decided to go with 1 normal milk tea and 1 special tea, and since I love mango; I chose Mango Cream Pie!
After about 5 minutes, our order was ready! And you had to go through this door to pick it up since the counter was on the inside.
These were our drinks!
Sean ordered the Dong Ding Oolong Fresh Milk Tea (yes that is the actual name), while mine is of course the Mango Cream Pie, which looked so cool! The intermingling layers of the cream with the mango tea made perfect layers.
And when you stirred it up a little, the middle layer blended together with the tea! And it was actually really delicious! It wasn't sweet and the mango taste was just right - not too overpowering but it blended well with the tea too! The cream on top was a little too salty though, so we didn't drink too much of that and just finished the mango tea.
The milk tea that Sean ordered was pretty average; nothing to complain about but it was good. Overall, their drinks are not pretty yummy! I think I've definitely had better milk teas from other bubble tea chains, but the mango tea is definitely worth a shot if you like mangoes! I liken it to a mango dessert but liquefied?
Anyway, if you're a boba fan, you'd want to try this chain out for sure. They have almost 30 outlets in Singapore and are also present in other SEA countries, Hong Kong, China, Russia and even US and Canada! So definitely check them out if you can!
Thanks so much for reading!
