Cabbage Stew - Recipe for Winter Months.

in #food6 years ago

I haven't posted a recipe in a long time, every day something is happening and now the children are on school holidays and it feels like I have even less time to do things.

So today I will post about what I cooked for lunch, nothing special but healthy and tasty and a lot of vitamin C!

Today I made a cabbage stew, with the following ingredients:

Half sour cabbage (sauerkraut) - diced up
2 diced carrots
2 diced up onions
2 diced potatoes
4 smoked sausages (you can use any smoked meat)

Enough water to cover the ingredients.

salt
Vegeta
paprika
and pepper

Use the spices sparingly, because smoked meats have spices in them and sauerkraut is salty.

Basic recipe guide:

Step 1

Lightly stir fry the onions, then add your carrots, keep stir frying and after the carrots soften up then add the sauerkraut, keep stir frying for another 10 minutes.

Step 2

Place the fried ingredients into a boiling pot of water, then add the potatoes, sausages and spices.

Add water if necessary, to cover the ingredients and cook for about 40 minutes on a strong/high flame.

Step 3

Serve the cabbage stew and this will keep everyone nice and healthy during the cold winter months.

Simple and very healthy recipe!

I make this often during the winter months.

We have this too in Hungary, we call it paradicsomos kaposzta 😋😋😋😋

We are neighbors, so we have the same or similar dishes. We take recipes from each other.

i cook a lot of stews and roasts in my instant-pot .. add a bone, it locks in the nutrients, and you can skin a large chunk of ginger and just toss it in;
the pressure forces out the medicinal essence, and flavor of the ginger; no grating required,
just remove it after it's cooked..
No more dicing onions for a stew,
just peel them, and throw them in whole, they melt right into the meal..
We put a few ladles of stew over rice for a hearty meal...
Love it !!
Keep cooking !!

omg that looks so good~ i wants some~ melbourne is SUPER cold today and just looking at your post makes me hungry * ___ *

Looks very tasty and something to enjoy after a good day's work!

Now this sounds like a real hearty stew, definitely going to try it! But I've never made sauerkraut, have been wanting to make that as well, do you make your own?
