Indian Homemade "Papad" , World's love Nachos !!

People around the world are quite crazy over Nachos. A crispy and crunchier snack items flavoured with many dips are easily available at every place, whether it be movie theatre, a shopping mall or Park....people always like to have Nachos to add a tangy taste to tongue. a very fond snack item for all genre.

Machos are originally originated from Indian Papad. Papad is a thin Crisp cake food items like Chips and Waffers available in the market. Papad constitutes an important part of Indian food platter. Roasted and fried in Golden Yelow, it is very crunchier and gives a spicy and tangy taste similar to Nachos

In India, before the aerated Chips and Waffers took over the new genre, Papad used to be a common snack name in most of the household. There are different varieties of Papad available in the market, which are made up of Peeled black gram flour, lentils, chickpeas, rice flour or potatoes etc.

Papad act as an appetizer, and help in digestion.It also adds to the taste of the food. The story of papad constitutes from the Kings ages, when many big Kings always prefer papad in their meals. Though the originating stories are still unclear
Although, it is an important accompaniment for meals, still it can also act as a snack items alongside hot tea. Papad can be taken along with tomatoes sauces and ketchup, some also like to have it by pouring curd.

Facts about Papad

Papad making is one of the most common Cottage industry flourished in India. A genuine way of employment to many women, who are not allowed to work outside. Mostly women from rural and backward regions are indulge in Papad making to earn livelihood.

Apart from the business module, many household women make their own Papad at home. As said, it is very common and can be made easily at every home. The Papad making process is very simpler and cheaper. It only takes some manual effort and some common available household kitchen items to make Papad.

Ingredients and Method of making Papad

The method of making papad is very simple and many household in India have indulge in making papad. The method of making papad is simple and take very little time and cost. Following are the

  • Black peas flour / Rice flour etc
  • Salt to taste
  • Powder Black Pepper
  • A little Oil
  • Water.

Papad making Procedure.

As you can see the ingredients are quite easily available at home, the method of making Papad is simpler as well:

  • Take the flour / Black Pepper / salt and oil in a bowl.
  • Mix the above powder mixture properly.
  • Add some water on to the mixture and bead it properly till a tight dough are made.
  • Make small balls of the dough.
  • Roll the balls into round shape thin cake crust.
  • The thin cake is spread over the mats and dried openly in sun to bake.

Once raw Papad is sun baked, it is ready to consume. The Papad can be eaten by roasting into the flame or by having it oil fry. Accompany it with meals or have it with Tea as Snack, it always help in making you mouth tastier. A change of taste, while eating helps in increasing the appetite.

If you want to make it more Spicy, you can add Chillies flakes or Chillies powder

In India, Papad is a common items in every Menu, whether you be attending any wedding party, or eating at any luxury Restaurants, you find Papad in their menu. Although it is served in very little quantiy, due to the fact is just a taste changer, but many believe, that eating Papad during course of meal helps to faster digestion.

Papad is also exported to many countries, and I belive, the Machos were originated from this thin crispy cake called Papad in India.

Hope you all enjoyed the post, you know what make me to draft the post??....well today while having lunch in office, i did not find the food to be tastier, obviously in office canteen, the food are prepared in large quantity, so something do lack many times. But Thanks to Papad, I manage to eat my meals. A good tongue taste changer.

I had those for the first time in Sri Lanka, where they call it "Papadam". Luckily I can find them in Canada too.
