Enjoying Authentic Peking Duck - Highlights Of Traveling China

in #food6 years ago

Have you tried Peking duck? I seized the chance to have a legitimate Peking duck experience in a restaurant in Beijing. We enjoyed other tasty dishes like chow-mein and fried rice, but the Peking duck was the highlight for me.

The dish has been prepared since the imperial era of China. A variation of roast duck was prepared for the emperor of China in the Yuan dynasty (1271 - 1368).

I would describe Peking duck as a Chinese taco experience. The duck meat is eaten with a mix of spring onion, cucumber, and pickled radish wrapped in a pancake type tortilla. There were a multitude of sauces, most notable were the hoisin sauce and sweet bean sauce. The actual meat is characterized by a thin crisp skin. The meal was delectable and I won't soon forget it.

Peking is actually a variant of the word Beijing.

In 1979 Peking officially became Beijing. This is because the Pinyin method of translating Mandarin via the Roman alphabet was adopted as an international standard.

So Pecking duck is literally a duck dish from Peking, AKA Beijing:

Looks delicious. I've never actually tried duck, I've always heard it was good, but kind of greasy - which maybe that's just wild duck and not what you would get in China.
