RE: TOP 5 REASONS why eating meat is NOT a personal choice...

in #food7 years ago

So i understand that this is a sensitive subject, and i didnt mean to pull any heart strings. I too desire a more harmonious food industry, but i'll draw the line where logical fallacies are cornered. The biggest trap that passionate people often can fall into are confirmation biases. I just like to present a rounded argument treating all perspectives fairly, so i feel its only fair that i reply.

….most people on planet are consuming factory animal farm meat) but what about the health implications of eating meat, does that not bother you?
Yes, when we dont care and show respect for our food stuffs, not matter what it is, it's not healthy.

no where near the same level of atmostpheric polutants are produced by animal farming
YES they are creating atmospheric and all kinds of other pollutants

Key word there is LEVEL. Im not suggesting that animal agriculture does not produce waste, its just not to the same level or degree as other sources of pollutants.

A staggering 51 percent or more of global greenhouse-gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture… climate change…
Again the assumption is that greenhouse gas emissions, specifically anthropogenically (by humans) are CAUSING the climate to change. Ill redirect you to research; solar minimum, solar cycles and moon cycles and their effects on the global weather. This is a natural process.
Try SuspiciousObservers Youtube channel for more information on this subject.

It takes an enormous amount of water to grow crops for animals to eat, clean filthy factory farms, and give animals water to drink. A single cow used for milk can drink up to 50 gallons of water per day—or twice that amount in hot weather—and it takes 683 gallons of water to produce just 1 gallon of milk. It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef, while producing 1 pound of tofu only requires 244 gallons of water. By going vegan, one person can save approximately 219,000 gallons of water a year.
All of these statistics come from INTENSIVE MONOCULTURE, which by design is extremely inefficient. Grass fed free range cattle sustainably managed will not require anywhere near the levels of input. The logic of this specific statistic is concerning to me. I can bet that MONOCULTURE soy or corn is produced and then fed to the cattle, this fact counts to their water intake, they are also requiring extra drinking water to wash down the died legumes and grains..
Here is some information on Integrating Livestock in the Food Forest

Runoff…
If there is runoff, then there are too many animals per square foot/metre, or there are no sustainable technologies in place in order to make use of the runoff resource. Eg methane generators and biodigesters..

Using land to grow crops for animals is vastly inefficient…
I answered this point in the replies above, but ill expand here for further clarity. With appropriate design, multiple systems can be layered together, making a polyculture instead of monoculture. Again i can guarantee that the majority if not all of the stats used have been taken from monoculture systems, which are as you can see are very inefficient.

In summary:
I was a vegetarian for a few years, whilst doing a lot of research on all of the above subjects. I am just as passionately inspired to making a positive change when it comes to production and consumption, of which we are all learning what that looks like and how to achieve it globally.
Here is a quick link to how different design and management techniques can be regenerative and therefore sustainable.

Hiya @seanceunsean

You construct very reasonable arguments with patience and respect. Everything's backed with knowledge and sources and obvious experience of working in harmony with lifeforms. Kudos!

I hope @chalchal realises he's been reading propaganda designed to misdirect and fire emotions rather than intellect. I hope he reads your sources.

In your response to @celestialcow (who I agree with about the disgusting intensive animal farming methods) I agree about the water intake stats. They're including the extra water needed to produce indigestible grains. Also, these animals are not equipped for this diet which could explain the cow fart situation (you should've heard me go off when I was eating too many grains and legumes XS). If the world moved towards sustainable natural husbandry, it would help with many of the environmental issues they keep telling us to focus on.

Cheers
Anj :)

PS I often miss good posts from people I'm following because my thread sometimes gets a bit congested. Please send me a link when you blog on these subjects, if you remember :)

Thanks mate, i appreciate your feedback.
Ill keep ya in the loop ^_^!

hi thanks for thorough reply but if you watch cowspiracy you will find grass fed cattle need even more land to graze. we live on a giant farm and to be honest it stinks, right now where i am in the austrian tyrol, where my family are from its a cow village and it stinks, pathegons everywhere and the air should be fresh here but it is not. the Eu fund these farm to use modern methods of taking up the feed for cattale more and mre regularly so the hay does not grow back naturally or organically, there used to be herbs on the field but now have disappeared. why does the eu do this? to make more money, farmer need inorganic stuff to make food grow. cattle get sick from eating crappy feed. cattle need antibiotics so they dont get sick, animals then get cancer and also live together in confirned space in winter, they cant leave the cow shed. shit and piss is spread on to field that dont grow back properly, the land has been rinsed and it doesnt absorb the waste properly. people get sick from this. its no way to treat the animals and its no way to live around them. We live on a planet with ever increasing population. it wasnt like our past when most people lived by the land and had a few animals to sustain them and even then they rarely killed there prized cow, meat only goes so far but if u keep a cow alive you can feed everyone for years.
im sorry but i cant kill an animal and i cant see it exploited. i dont have sharp teeth like a lion or dog, i dont kill prey with my bare teeth. paleolithic man might be hunter gathers but how often did they actually make a kill, we were NOT designed to eat meat we had long instentines to digests grasses.
besides much meat now is filled with cancer and other crap.
on top of that meat is dead flesh, i would not eat a dead human so why eat a dead flesh of any other species.
animals feel pain and many are scared of being slaughtered so why would u want to see them suffer?
i feel sorry for your delusions about the state of this planet
im sorry u dont care enough about other animals that ud rather see them dead.
