Sharing Food at our Weekly Meet-up!

Every week on Thursdays we meet up in the middle of the city to give away food. It's a great way to meet and help each other. We do it at the same time as the decentralized farmers market that I've initiated which adds even more value! :)

This weeks meet-up was a great success and I gave away most of what I had in store. Unfortunately I forgot to take in pictures as I was quite busy handing out food and talking to people! :)

Why do I Dumpster Dive?

Bring awareness on how much food is wasted with our current system!
Save the abundance of food that is wasted and share it with my network!
Minimizing costs enabling me to Power Up 100%!
Great exercise to bike and carry all the food!

dividerblue.png

I regularly invite friends over to share the abundance of food, been doing it for many years but now I make sure to introduce everyone to the Steem blockchain! :)

Do you ever get hassled by the store/cops? One cop made us put our newfound treasures back in the dumpster after a store employee saw us. I know it creates a legal liability for them, but I thought that trash was fair game as soon as it hit the curb?

It seems like a lot of stores do things like pour bleach on their trash to discourage dumpster diving, at least in my limited experience. Also, it's getting harder to find actual dumpsters behind grocery stores instead of big trash compactors now. Sad, because there's a lot of hungry people out there.

Yeah the trash compactors are a big problem here as well but one might always try to talk to the store owners about helping them take care of their food and some times they agree. The bleach thing I think is very uncommon at least here in Sweden and is used as a story to scare people off.

Encountered police and workers on many occasions and I just explain what I'm doing and show the food and they are shocked on the perfect quality of the food that is being thrown away. No problem at all, what's morally right, to throw away the food or save it!? ;)

The local bakeries around here donate their day-old baked goods to shelters, but the big chain grocery stores seem to be much more uptight about people poking around their trash. Again, I'm sure it's probably their legal team that's preventing them from adopting a more progressive attitude. :)

Yeahh! Yeahh! Yeahh! Lets Go Champ!!

lol @jonsnow1983! Pumped up!!! :D

Really cool initiative. It's astonishing to see how much people throw to waste, although I guess these are primarily companies and supermarkets, by the looks of the amounts of the same products. @felander maybe something for you?

Yes indeed @wolfje, it's one single store that is throwing away this and they are all basically the same, it's built into the system and must be stopped!

I fully agree, we in the western world have way too much. Where people in other countries don't have anything and baby's are dying due to starvation. This is unfair. A system where we could send stuff like that to them overnight could already be beneficial in getting this 'waste' to the people who need it most.

This is simply WONDERFUL ! Paying for food is probably the stupid things in the world when you live in a city (isn't @dannyshine ? :-)).

Congratulation for saving this food !!!

Yeah @roxane you could just dumpster dive and forage and you'll have an abundance of food for yourself and others. TY! :)

Simply amazing! You are my hero!

Thank you @melinda010100! The Steem superhero! ;)

I should start working on a Steem superhero outfit, thanks for the inspiration!! :D

Oh! I can't wait to see! 🤣

It's sick the amount of food that gets wasted.. especially when people are going hungry right outside their door..

Yup, and this is the waste for one day from one single store that's not even that big!!

I lived homeless for 3 years in America. The amount of food we throw away is abundant. And I mean untouched fresh food like you got yourself.

Yes indeed, no one goes hungry in Sweden...

you are doing a good deed, the planet suffocates from debris

True, hopefully we'll change that going forward! :)

More folks need to be aware of the food that gets wasted. This bounty of food feeds numerous hungry mouths. Congratulations on a job well done.

That's the truth and 2018 I will do my utmost to change this for good! :)

Great and interesting post. The photos are just great, I'm thrilled.
