Intermitent fasting. Tick tac. Everyone's talking about it but who tried?

I did and I am actually using it pretty often and here's to talk about it. Basically fasting is making a comeback in the last few years as more and more people are starting to notice a lot of benefits from doing something that people have been doing - albeit for other reasons..- for centuries! As with every "new" thing in fitness it went from "this could help with fatloss" to "this can make you a genius that will be forever young and live to 180". Ehhh, hold your horses!

Maine benefit for me and for countless others is an efficient and easy way to control them calories. Because if you do not eat for a big chunk of the day..then how do you get fat?! - Obviously, you eat a lot more on the other chunk of the day but that trick is for another posts :D

So basically, that's all there is to it: take 14-16-20-23 hours of the day when you do not eat anything...and eat whatever you want on the rest. You might see some improvements just by doing this.
Then, you start counting the calories that you eat, and maybe see more imporvements.

Now, people mention a lot of good side-effects. Mental acuity is one of the most common, a feeling of "focus". Some say that after 12 hours the body starts doing interesting stuff, because most of it energy is not spent on turning the good ol' stomach wheels. Maybe..maybe not. The studies are not yet clear but there might be something to it.
There's also something about insulin restitance, recovery, regeneration...but honestly, I am in no position to talk about that because I am not an MD. I do urge you to make your own research. I offer this link as a good starting point:

BOOM!

What else?

Oh yeah. there's an app for that!!!

Created by Kevin Rose this is the simplest way to track your fasting if you do decide to start and track. It's called "ZERO" and it's a basic good looking app that will just count the minutes till your fast is done. I find that it helps with keeping at it because breaking the fast and stopping the clock is simply not appealing! For Android it seems there is something called "Vora" that is very similar. Sorry, android peeps!

Well, that's about it. I just did a 21 hours fast and I need to eat everything!
Share your experience!

I bet next post you will be quitting sugar :))) oh the irony

I wish that I'd ever make you this happy. But alas...never :D

Good Job sir @razvanelulmarin. Fasting is good. I fast as a form of carrying out religious orders, there is a full month of fasting (from morning to near night) in a year, there is fasting today but tomorrow is not, there is fasting every Monday and Thursday. Apart from the debate about why I do it, but from the health side, fasting help us to controll our body, the most important, our body is given the opportunity to remove toxins naturally before we eat other foods. Utah university in 2008 has research that those who fast regularly have a lower risk of suffering from heart disease because the use of fat as the body's main energy source can reduce cholesterol. The reduction in cholesterol can reduce the risk of heart disease by 58%. God bless you.
