Dining Out - Longrain

Longrain

Back in February a couple of my cousins and I decided to catch up, and we ended up going to check out Longrain at my suggestion. It was on my list of meals to eat in Sydney, and I was quite happy to mark this one off.

Longrain is a Modern Thai restaurant, doing well developed dishes designed for sharing. Between the 3 of us, we had 3 main dishes, and some rice to go with it all. There were no leftovers, but we were all quite full, and probably could have done with a little less each.

This was the worst of the dishes we ordered. Would certainly order again. Was just completely overshadowed by the other 2 dishes.

A spiced yellow curry, with a selection of seasonal vegetables in it. Was quite good, and worth trying. It was a nice break between the flavours and heat of the other 2 dishes we had. It was possibly because of the other dishes that we all found this to be our least favourite dish.

Longrain - Stir Fried Beef Fillet.jpg
This dish looks different to Stir Fried Beef Fillet, on the current menu, but I think it's still the same dish. Sorry for the blur

This dish (Stir Fried Beef Fillet, Oyster Mushrooms, Snake Beans, Thai Basil, Chilli Jam) was our favourite from the choices, combining superbly cooked beef that was unbelievably tender, with some good flavours of mushrooms and well balanced amount of chilli in the accompanying sauce as well as fresh cut on the plate.

The dish we were there for. And it wasn't a disappointment.

On my list the dish is listed exactly as it still is on the menu. 3 years later. Caramelised Pork Hock, Five Spice, Chilli Vinegar. The consistency of how well the meat was cooked, and the sameness of the slices made this immediately stand out to me. The flavours of the tender meat, the dry spice and wet chilli vinegar all went together perfectly for a great dish. It just wasn't quite as good as the Beef Fillet was.

It's not often I walk out of a restaurant with such a feeling of satisfaction. the worst dish of the 3 was something that all 3 of us would order again in an instant, and hard for us to really think how it wasn't perfect. It just wasn't any of our favourites. But then we are all meat eaters, and it was the vegetarian dish so we got some veggies. I'm sure some other people would prefer it even if they are meat eaters.

This certainly wasn't a cheap meal out, but it was certainly helped by the 25% off from the Entertainment book that I had. I've not been back, but it is somewhere that I want to go back to at some point.

They have some really nice presentation. Have to say I find the first one the most aesthetically appealing even if it was the least favourite as far as your eating experience went XD

Oh yeah, for aesthetics, the yellow curry had a better presentation, but it also had the most to work with to manage that also...

Nice post. Everything look delicious.
