Recipe - Basic cake

in #food6 years ago

It was my boyfriend's dad's birthday yesterday, so I made cake!

He didn't actually celebrate his birthday and I'm basically the only one who came over, but hey, birthday means cake. I dropped off half of the cake, gave him our gift and then went back home to care for my poor boyfriend who's home sick with the flu.

I wasn't inspired enough to go for anything special, so I just bought some butter and eggs at the shop and set to work on a regular cake. No cake mix involved though, this was my very first regular cake without any of that.

There's nothing to it really and this basic cake recipe can be found all over the internet on basically any cooking site you can find. I'm adding the same one here for my own, quick access and because I want to share yummie images with you!

P.S.: This cake contains sugar. Simple, evil sugar, because I wanted a cake that looked and tasted like cake. I had no time to experiment and risk making a failed cake. I'm not eating this one all by myself, so I figured it's okay.

Ingredients

  • 200g Self-rising flour
  • 200g Sugar
  • 200g Butter (melted)
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1-2 Tsp vanilla extract (or 8g vanilla sugar)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 165C.
  2. Mix together everything but the flour. After that, add the flour and mix again untill you have a smooth batter.
  3. Grease up a cake tin and pour the mixture into it.
  4. Set in the oven for 60-65 minutes.
  5. Take out of the oven and let the cake cool off for 30 minutes inside the tin.
  6. Pop the cake out of the tin and let it cool off completely (or eat it warm, because nothing beats warm cake!).

Enjoy!

Glad you got around to making the cake for your boyfriend's Dad. It looks really yummy.

Hope your boyfriend was well enough to enjoy a piece! 😊

It tasted really yummy, though super sweet! I think I could have left out some sugar, so that's for a next experiment :D

My boyfriend did have a piece, though I'm amazed he managed to keep it inside for as long as he did. He's still not doing well today, but atleast he ate a little more :-)

The cake looks so nice! Your boyfriend's dad must be so happy about it :) I am gonna bake more very soon when I have more time to stay in the kitchen!

Ooh that sounds good! Do you enjoy baking much?

I alway love to but just no time to do that when I keep flying :) now gonna slow down and start baking again!

My normal cakes go like this... 1 egg, half a scoop of protein, mix them, microwave that... done, it takes about 5 minutes xD if i want to change it up, i put oatmeal in and do a pancake instead

Wow, that does sound super easy! I don't think I've ever had any kind of protein stuff. I always thought that's what people who work out a lot use :D

As long as it's part of a balanced diet you can eat some, the amount of protein in 1 protein scoop is the same amount of protein in 5 glasses of milk, and whey protein is the protein that milk contains, milk also contains casein, another type of protein. But of course, real food is always better, for the micronutrients like vitamins and mineral,etc...

Belated Happy Birthday to your boyfriend's dad and I hope you boyfriend is feeling okay now. Hey, I always love learning new recipes, I just started baking, well I've only tried caramel and strawberry pudding and my newest one is banana bread. :D Hope to see more post from you

Thank you! My boyfriend is still sick sadly, but atleast he's able to watch some tv now, which is a small improvement. I still wish he could eat more, but we'll get there!

Yum yum, banana bread! I actually have a recipe for banana cake lined up to be posted soonish. I love experimenting with recipes I find and trying to make them healthier (current cake recipe not included).

OMG, I'd love to see that, I'd check your timeline so I can check it out, maybe we have different recipe when it comes to banana bread, that'd be cool.

and to your boyfriend, let him drink more water, tho I didn't know his illness still everything that includes water is healthy.

There are many different recipes to find for banana bread, so I'm sure we'll have some differences :D

Yeah, he's got the flu. He's tired of water though, so I gotta remember to make him enough tea!

oh the flu, yeah he needs some herbal tea, or even lemon/ ginger tea as well, you can try some electrolyte drinks too. Anyway, I really had a great time chatting with you, thanks and hope all is well

Happy birthday to him ! Thanks for recipe. My mother make this cake to :) very delicious and tasty
